Identify Peugeot

1 Attachment(s)
I just picked this peugeot off CL. Can anyone identify it and give me any information on it? Year, model, low-end, high-end, weight, value, etc. Thanks.

Should get you started on identification. Look through the catalogs for a match. Start around 1980.

Looks to be an entry level 83 Peugeot from their P8/P9/PH10/PH12 family.
The frame is made from Peugeot's "house" tubing called Carbolite 103, which is a high tensile, high carbon, straight gauge, seamed tubing.
Although these bi8kes a entry level models, they are still quite popular with C&Vers because of their excellent riding characteristics, mainly because of their very good frame geometries.
Frame construction was done using Peugeot's lug-less, internally brazed construction which proved to be very strong as cases of frame joint failures had been almost non-existent all these years.
Value of the bike in VGC to NOS condition is quite low, at around $150 max. in most markets. Most examples in "rider" condition sell for around $100 or less.

This does look to a P8 which was nice but low end model based on the steel components and wheels. A bit heavy not bad for and entry level model about 28lbs. These do ride very nice and have reputation for be extremely tough. Considering the nice paaint and size but with some rough rusty components about $100 value.

Looks to me to be the equivalent (although lugless) model of what was previously called the UO-9 (was designated "Super Sport" in 1979).

Steel rims, but with alloy cranks, and (luckily) not burdened with the rather poor Helicomatic rear hub!

It should make a good rider if it is the right size for you, and with a possible wheel upgrade in it's future.

I so liked the ride of my UO-9 that I immediately replaced the wheels with a pair of alloy rims off a 1980's Nishiki, and found and bought a micro-adjusting seatpost and leather saddle for it.:

26.5lbs with leather saddle and heavy gumwall tires as shown:
