The Frera

The first post, the first bike, just need to say hello :).

It's Columbus Aelle steel frame, size 49cm. It was in very bad condition. So, I re-chromed and re-painted frame set and added some part's from 80's. All parts were lightly polished, golden details filled in. Nitto racks don't comply with the requirements, so I drew in CAD something special for this bike. It's custom polished stainless steel made by small local company.

Lot of leather stitched by hand by myself. The most important: choose a color to match the paint on the bike. I decided to make classic beige leather that will be beautifully getting old. Handlebars cover with 1,5 mm vegetable-tanned leather and a little bit of cork for anti-vibration. Roll's with simple recover and transport bag.

How absolutely gorgeous! The colour co-ordination is superb as is the restoration work on the frameset. Thank you for sharing.

That is indeed quite a first post and first bike. Very nicely done!

Welcome to C&V.

Oh man, that is pretty!

Love the color, did you paint it yourself?

Who did the re-chrome? Tough to find anyone that does it anymore - to toxic.

Never heard of Frera, but it is obviously a quality frame. Italian I'm guessing?

Very nice! What a beautiful bike. Do you have any images of the before? Do you know any of the history. Can't find much on Frera. I did find this.

Pretty nice for a girl's bike. Maybe my daughters would take an interest in riding if I dropped something like that under the Christmas tree one year. :)

Nah, they're pretty much Philistines:(

smurv 07-29-14 01:24 AM

Thanks, i make my best :)

Giacomo 1 I "only" make little polished for all parts and all leather ;). Painting was made by my neighbor, he is car spraying. The paint for this bike is pearl automotive pallet but without special brand code like bmw ford WV etc...

Here in Poland it's not as difficult to find production facility making re chrome. Of course all depends by price. For fork and back triangle they want 50 to ~850 USD ;/. I decided to make it for ~250 USD, by great people making mostly details to old cars and motor bikes.

Frera it the biggest mystery for me. You find a lot :). I know that it's Italian/Milano brand founded in 1905. And probably mostly focused at motor bikes, wiki confirm this:
Frera - Wikipedia

Unfortunately I cant find any pictures/catalogs.

In Poland is very difficult to find good base to make this kind of bicycles. (Tubing, geometry, maybe brand.) I was looking for it by 6-8 months, and buy this frame in very bad condition, without any equipment.
