Bicycle - Art Meets Form Sept. 5-7

Who's in?

Bicycle ArtForm > Home

I went last year and found it to be filled with great people and great bikes. I wasn't planning on attending this year but I was invited to "premier" the Valetti movie so I thought that would be fun.

Good stuff - bike show, bike rides, bike swap, talks, movies, food and a bike race - a very activity-packed weekend. And cheap at $85 for the weekend pass.

I'm donating a framed movie poster to the charity auction,

Valetti by iabisdb, on Flickr

5 custom framebuilders will be giving a talk and answering questions

I'll be there with my just completed Mattolini restoration for the show.

To think I used to live next door to High Point. Went the first year and enjoyed it madly, if the fates allow I will be roaming the place this year too.

If anyone remembers the vintage group lead in for the truck carrying quite a few of the show bikes, I was on the red and white 87 Schwinn Super Sport.

Yes, quite a weekend !

I want to go, but don't think it'll be happening. I know the low room rates and discounted tickets end in the next few days.

What a fantastic list of builders in attendance this year.

Tempting, but unusually bad timing for me to go.....

If you look closely at the poster there is one German name in the sea of Italian names. That would be me.

Come to bamf, watch the cool movie and find out how some suburban schlub became an associate producer for a documentary about an obscure bike racer.

Then get entertained by much better stuff!

Once again I have the time but I likely won't have the money.

Great frame.

Weekend pass comes with 5 meals and beer. To sum up, 2 room nights with 3 days of fun, friends, bikes, and all food and schwag for just $243.00...ALL IN. Knock $79 off of that if you share a room.

I bet a fire sale out of your parts bin would take care of that.

I'll be there. Going up tomorrow to take 2 show bikes and see if I can get my Wraith in for Ken Toda photography, perhaps take in a pretty rare carbon Cinelli, as well. Would be nice to rub elbows with an international film producer, aka the "don" of Chicago C&V. Plus, watch the fastest US Criteriium riders there are. Plus, see a collection of vintage bikes that takes hours just for cursory inspection. Plus, to chat once again with Bilenky, one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. Plus, pick up another of Mary Elizabeth's caps. Plus, to see Pegoretti bikes, sitting unattended in the builder's show area, and thinking "what if?" Plus. there's ice cream. Plus, the Horton Collection will be there this year (I want to take a picture of a picture, for crank_addict). Plus, the beer and the taco truck.

I also have a somewhat secondary motive, and that is to put the Wraith "in front of" some of the right people.

I know what iab looks like. It would be nice to meet the others. I'll be the little guy with grey hair and glasses.
I met Citoyen du Monde last year, but I don't think either of us knew who the other was (as if we should, or it matters!).

For me, the best thing is to just go into the C&V show and listen to the owners/display folks talk. You can learn a lot.
(I'm not counting the Paramount corner, where it seemed the game was bashing other Paramounts)

Wish I could be there, but just spent over a week at the beach and am moving furniture back into my [previously flooded] basement this weekend. The repair took far too long, so I'm not allowed out until it's done.

Please share post reports for the geographically and temporally challenged - it looks like a very fine weekend.

Nice frame, iab. I'd like to catch the film.

Is there a positive correlation between vintage bicycles and art? Yes!

The first version of MY "TEN SPEEDS" was lucky to earn 50,000 hits per month, with 30,000 being more normal. When I rebuilt the website, I decided to do so by presenting it with the artist's eye in mind. Know what happened?

Three months later, 100,000 plus hits per month, then 500,000 and today, three and a half million hits per month. Vintage bicycles and art form compliment each other perfectly, in my opinion. Wish I lived close enough to take in events like the one this thread focuses on.

Well, you could add profanity, violence, and some dancing monkeys.
