I own SB833 which is a Team bike from 1975 though interestingly the cable guides on the top tube are very early.

SB is only for Specialist Bicycle - nothing more.

Because it states Team on the Top Tube does not mean it was a Team bike per se.

You are right in saying it would have the rider's initials - for instance the 3rd bike that was issued to Henk Lubberding in 1983 had HL.3.83 stamped on the BB where the 53.5 is on this frame.

Not sure about Legrand building it. Interesting to note though as my frame is identical in details and the TT cable guides this late is unusual I am led to believe by a local expert.

I agree with you on the painting but I think electrolysis is the only proper way to remove rust but it would also remove paint I am guessing or at least damage it.

The rust to the BB really does look bad.
Now I know.. You should have seen me digging in the Ti Raleigh archives searching for a rider with SB as initials

As a Dutchie, knowing little of British bikes I assumed the well known details he used in his builds for Presto and the Le Grand I own myself are of his hand only. But could well be of course his fellow frame builders at Ilkeston are the ones that showed him these signature details.

The BB sure looks bad with that rust. That's where the rider's sweat dripped off when on the trainer. Could it be possible and/or esthetically acceptable to just repaint underneath the BB shell?

Who knows?

I asked if I could view it before auction end but bearing in mind it is approx. 120 miles from me, it is not a journey to be taken lightly on a whim.

The guy seems very resistant to viewing and keeps skirting the issue so probably best left alone. Some buffoon can bid high on it without seeing it and be left with a pile of overpriced Campag parts. Ebay is great for that sort of deal.
