Holdsworth Mistral Project

Just though I'd share my recent 80's find, and what I plan to do.

It fits me fine (just need a slightly longer stem), so figured I'll keep it as my 'club racer'. I want to make it operate like new to today's standards which will require many parts replacement, but the down-tube shifting style will be kept!

Painting will be a big part, and possibly 100% stripped an repainted the same color with decals replaced. The metallic trim is actually just silver and gold sharpies, because I wanted to see how it would look if I painted the decal.

Any thoughts? And are their 6-speed SIS down-tube shifters?

Nice. I haven't started on my Holdsworth Record yet, unfortunately. HLloyd should have your decals, and I've seen some on the bay as well.

6s SIS DT shifters exist, but some of the early Shimano ones (the 600 series) are susceptible to internals failing. Why not just go 7 speed? Same hub OLD, and the shifters will be more reliable.

I remember this one from your earlier post. Good score. Are you sure it needs a re-paint? It looks nicer than half the bikes on the forum already. Anyway, enjoy it, whatever you decide. It will be a great rider.

I suppose I should go just 7 speed if I'm going to replace components. But do they make NEW 6s SIS downtube shifters? If they're new, I doubt they'd be failing.

Sunrace makes some. Maybe others, too. Inexpensive, but not real pretty.

(Niagara has 'em)
