Trek Custom Aluminum?

First of all, thats steel. More importantly, did Trek ever make a chromed lugged steel road bike? I'm intrigued.

If I didn't have to be in NYC today...the Trek would be in my car by now!

That has to be one pretty rare Trek. Since the seller is clueless, I wonder if it's stolen.

For $75, what's there to discuss? I hope the email is already sent.

We did make at least one chromed frame, for a show bike (chrome was never an option for production bikes), but it was not the model in the picture above; it was a 950 series frame, Columbus SL tubes, Campy 1010B dropouts, Cinelli crown and BB shell. I suspect the bike above was chromed at some point after it left the factory.

I replied as soon as I saw it but it was already sold. Would've been nice for $75.

I was looking too after you posted but didn't want to step on your toes. I am sure we will see it again around $500 with a bit of dust knocked off.

Since JDT says there weren't any production factory chrome plated framesets, it's very likely the frame left the factory with paint and an owner had it plated sometime after purchase. Unless the plater had significant experience with thin tube bicycle frames, there are a number of potential issues. These include poor prep work that would normally include carefully polishing the bare steel and cleaning up file marks, plating with copper, then nickle, and finally chrome with additional polishing between steps, and finally baking the frame in an oven for several hours to reduce the risk of hydrogen embrittlement.

IOW, chrome plating bike frames isn't for amateurs.
