Kuwahara weirdness

What the heck is this thing for? I figure if anyone would know, it'd be the vintage crowd.

It's only on the drive side seatstay, and there's no indication that there was ever a matching tab on the non-drive side that had just broken off. It's on an '88 or '89 Kuwahara Mondia Shasta Road.

Mount for a rear wheel powered generator?

fietsbob 08-17-14 02:34 PM

just looks odd since you stretched it with an extracycle Kit

My knee-jerk reaction was "chainguard mount," but that might have made more sense on the mid-stay.

EDIT: Yes, generator mount makes more sense than my theory, and right side is indeed consistent with a country in which folks drive on the left.

I guess something similar came up a couple of days ago. And yeah, it does look a lot like the bottle generator tabs on those old Peugeots in the catalog pics.

It looks odd to me regardless; before buying this bike, my oldest ride was a 2001 Trek MTB. I've never even seen a bike with a bottle generator in real life.
