1933 Frejus. Although there is a bike from the 1920s that is tempting me and may be mine by the end of the week.

Early 50's Colson

Just purchased last Saturday! Now if I can only find a chain guard I'd be set for making this a winter project!

At the moment, it would be this 1976 or so Gazelle Champion Mondial A.

A fun little project that fell into my lap.

Forum member Sloar did the repaint.

Here is what it looks like now and what it looked like when we started out.

As for the build, I can't decide which direction to go. I do have a very nice Campy Gran Sport groupset sitting on the shelf here along with all the fixins.

Well see what happens this winter.

For a little while, not long ago, I owned this:

Probably made in 1934, probably English (probably a Sun Wasp), but in the US by the late 30's and modified here.

I still own, and ride quite a bit, this Fothergill that dates to the period either just before, or just after, the Second World War:

That came out rather nice! Glad you did not do the black. I vote 600 arabesque.

Thanks.

Hmmm, yes, I flirted with black.

I do have a super nice 600 groupset as well.

I rarely deviate from Campy on my road bikes though, so we will have to see.

The key to this entire project though is the price.

I plan on keeping the entire project under $450.

The other important point is that this was never intended to be entirely period correct.

So far, so good.

Late '30's or early '40's fillet-brazed mixte. Probably Belgian, maker as yet unidentified.

When it arrived:

After removing the black paint:

This is its current state. I need to get the BB shell repaired before I can think of repainting. I'd love to build it into a nice tourer for mrs non-fixie in the classic French style, but when I showed her this, enthusiasm was limited. I tried to buy Jan Heine's "The Golden Age Of Handbuilt Bicycles" so as to leave it casually lying on the coffee table, but that seems to be out of print. Time for a strategy re-think. Any ideas?

Don't have a digital picture of my childhood 60s red Schwinn Typhoon, so my 73ish Peugeot will have to do.

@gomango Grady, what's the back story on the Gazelle's Italian disguise??

Unless you're dealing with a museum piece period correctness is not much an issue, as far as I'm concerned. Having said that, I think most modern stuff, with its muscular shapes, looks awkward on a frame like this, with its fine lines and intricate details. But maybe that's just me being grumpy.

Looking forward to the build anyway.

Oh, and orange on a Dutch bike is always a good choice.

Very nice Peugeot. My golly, we sold a ton of those at the bike shop I worked at in the 70s.

The frameset was offered in our for sale section by Belg Ital for an extremely fair price.

We never thought for an instant that it was a Super.

I bought it and he thoughtfully sent a box of fun goodies including this frameset.

The key was having Sloar take on the refinish project at a reasonable rate.

He agreed, I found the "pretty close" decal sets and we were off to the races.

The frameset arrived this spring and I have been waiting to do a build since then.

I'm sure I will build it late fall or early winter.

I would love to have a fun classic to buzz around on at my parents' house near Austin, Tx.

Pogliaghi pista approximate date is somewhere between 1977-79. I rode this in the Colorado Springs Velodrome back in the early 80's.

Love this stem.

1972 Schwinn Super Sport frame mocked up as a townie. Still not built up, lots of patina, debating a powder coat job in opaque green. Since it was purchased as a frame it won't be stock, but rather a "hotrod" build.
