Super Sequoia
 

Just returned with this 1983? Specialized Sequoia. A very nice gentleman was helping his 80 year old father sell off his very large and eclectic 35 year collection of bicycles and I found his ad on CL. The story on this one was that it had been purchased new by his mother, ridden sparingly and the put up in the garage after she had an accident on another bike. This seems to be the first time it has seen the light of day since 1983...

The Huret odometer shows a total of 214 miles; the son thought that it had been installed at the point of purchase and reflected the actual mileage on the bike. Easy for me to believe; this bike doesn't have a single scratch or nick on it! Showroom condition. I've owned a few really nicely preserved Vintage bikes, but none like this... It came with a few nice aftermarket pieces (Flickstand, Silca frame pump with a Campy head) as well as a decent set of Kirtland rear panniers that he included for a few extra bucks.

Really happy to own another Sequoia; I owned a 1985 version previously and it was one of the quickest, best handling bikes I've owned. I have a different bike ('84 Expedition) for touring; the Sequoia seems much lighter and sportier and will most likely be used for day trips and any 60 or 100k's I might get involved in...

That was Specialized Flagship bike. The finest in bicycle components for 1983. I love the blue painted seatpost.

If I could have just one bike in my stable, it would be a steel-framed road sports touring bike similar to that. I like that half-step-plus-granny gearing.

I actually live in the SF Bay Area (the bike was in the Santa Rosa area), but we visit Orcas Island whenever we have the opportunity...

Are those Cyclone M2 derailleurs?

Yes, they are Cyclone M2 derailleurs. With the exception of the original Superbe pedals (replaced with some sort of clip-in, then lost to the sands of time) the bike is all factory spec, down to the original bar tape.
