Miyata One Hundred, finished
I know it's a lower end bike, but this Miyata restoration turned out pretty nice. It was a very lightly used bike, and is all original except for new tubes, tires, cables, and (obviously!) the bars and wrap. Oh, I used a micro-clicking pair of Motobecane-branded Suntour stem shifters instead of the stock ones.
I've got it listed on CL, and am hoping a college kid will want a campus commuter...and give me some of their daddy's money! The last pic is from the BB before I cleaned it up. Did I mention that the bike had very little use? http://i.imgur.com/PPalpuM.jpg http://i.imgur.com/Ym8Zzcg.jpg http://i.imgur.com/VVTcaJr.jpg http://i.imgur.com/JGSExZ6.jpg http://i.imgur.com/BDbuJFm.jpg http://i.imgur.com/U5dVJTo.jpg http://i.imgur.com/VoBEywq.jpg http://i.imgur.com/kz6RLIh.jpg |
That is quite well done.

I love the old cro-mo steel bikes. And really appreciate the quality of the 80's Japanize made bikes. What great paint on yours! It is beautiful.
|
Nicely done. Congrats.
|
I concur w/ the others. With the CrMo frame and aluminum cranks, it is one step above low end. It should be a practical and fun ride, and that paint job does look great. I have always been amazed by how far and fast the Japanese frame builders progressed during the 1970s, and their derailleurs have always been world class, thanks to SunTour's invention of the slant planograph.

ha , i had a 110 that i sold for 130, i put the same bar tape on it, not nearly as clean as yours though
|
I am usually not a fan of harlequin bar tape BUT I must admit that the harlequin wrap compliments that bike and build.
Congrats |
Great looking Miyata. :thumb: Definitely a step above low end.
|
In our constant drive to go faster and farther it's sometimes hard to remember that a bike like this is just fine for a cruise down to the local store to pick up some goodies for dinner. And it's nice when we can look good while doing that.
Neatly done project with a great look to it. And best of all when you get older and can't quite bend that way as easily any longer it would not take much to flip the bars and make it even more of a casual cruiser. HEY! Is that my 61 year old bones that spoke up again? :D |
Hey, is that a centering device on the close up pic of the front brake? I've never seen one of those before. Nice bike, I had a Miyata 110 in the same color. I love it when I see a bottom bracket like that. Quick wipe down of the bearings/cups and use the grease in the mud guard, easy peasy.
|
That is a centering device and, I must say, it works very well.
Neat idea that apparently never caught on... http://i.imgur.com/rIilDAF.jpg |
This is great! I really like the clamp you used for the shifter cables, where did you find it?
|
I can't believe how immaculate this is. Was it ever ridden?
|
its beautiful! i love my miyata i wish the paint was as good as yours though

@67tony - great bike. Very clean. What handlebars are those? I own a Miyata One Twelve Mixte with brazed on down tube shifters and it's one of my favorite bikes! Some person is really gonna love that bike.
|
Yes, the bike certainly had very few miles on it. That, and the condition of the frame, was the primary reason I scooped it for a whopping $10. The shift levers are an early version Suntour Power shifters, branded with the Motobecane "M", and are considerably better than original low-end Suntour offering. The clamp on the down tube is stock Suntour.
The handlebars are a basic steel set from a buddy's tangled pile, flipped over to appeal to a younger crowd. Turns out this flip worked pretty well, as I sold it recently to an MSU student for $165! |
Looks great. That should be an easy sale.
|
What type of handlebars are those? Kind of a rookie to the road bike world but I don't see many handlebars that style and very interested. Any info is appreciated. Thanks.
|
Old thread, with pics of a really nice frame.
The answer to your handlebar question is found in post #17 ... Nothing fancy, just a pair of inverted steel comfort bars! |
