Shogun 600 information
I found this vintage shogun on craigslist but can't find any information about it. It's not on bikepedia and I couldn't find any old shogun catalogs. Does anybody know what year this is and what components would have come on it? The only thing I can tell is it is a chromoly double butted frame. I also tried to get an idea of the age based on the head badge but had no luck.
Vintage 1980's Shogun Road Bike Trade for Single Speed |
Shoguns were mostly imported to the east coast/nicely made japanese roadbikes. The higher the model # the nicer the offerings. A 600 is above entry level. Late 80's could still put it at 12 speeds... email seller for more info. From the pics alone, looks decent to me. If indexed even more so.

Not a drive-side picture in the lot....
I've had several Shoguns pass through my hands, and a mid-eighties 400 and 500 are hanging up in the barn. I've never seen a real dog, including the 100 ladies that I just dragged home from the dump. Seems a bit steep, though. Top |
My Shogun 600 had the Shimano 600 "Arabesque" grouppo on it, which seems appropriate.
This puts it right around 1979 or so. It was a nicer mid-range bike, but 2 sizes too small for me. Still, it rode great and the paint was durable and glossy. |
love how he includes five pics of the nds from ten feet.

I had a "CroMo 400" and it was obviously a frame from the same plant that was making several very similar models of good Japanese bikes at the time. That one looks better than most. I'm guessing the Panasonic National plant, because the paint jobs out of that place were really excellent and durable. I can't see the headbadge, but the 400 I had was probably an '82 or '83 and it had the metal Samurai helmet headbadge, which drove the hipsters nuts. I single-sped it and had no problem selling it, and now sort of wish I'd have kept it.

While really nice frame bike $300 is just silly price for a half ass SS conversion of Japanese bike. You should be able to get one that is properly nicely done for $150-200.

Thanks for all the help. He said he was interested in trading for a single speed so I offered a fuji single speed I have. We were going to meet today but he backed out last minute. Oh well, its always fun learning about different bikes. Thanks for sharing the knowledge
