On Beaujolais Nouveau day, rode the PSV-10 on a nice 27 miler and had a Beaujolais Nouveau that evening! Otherwise I tend to drink French wines....

How about a trunkfull of wine shipped back from France! Finding a shipping company, a French winery that would supply the export papers, and a customs office that would let me clear the wine, whoop whoop!

This week? These:

New Belgium, Oscar Blues, and Sierra Nevada are almost always on special at the store because of their local breweries/distribution hubs in Asheville, NC. My wallet likes that. But, when Iím feeling spendy, there are many other true local brews that I enjoy.

Alas, I'm not getting along with beer anymore. After a long-term thyroid problem worsened this year I began having allergic reactions similar to any sinus allergy problem -- stuffy sinuses, watery and swollen eyes, sinus headaches, etc.

Not sure whether the reaction is to hops or alcohol, but the few times I've had a beer this year I've had the same reactions within a few hours. I didn't seem to react to a couple of glasses of strongly spiked fruit punch at Thanksgiving. So it may be a reaction to hops.

I'm hoping to try some old style traditional ale, heavy on the malt, barley, etc., before hops were added as a preservative and to add bittering. There are lots of microbreweries in my area but nobody makes medieval style ales -- they say there's no market for it and the flavor is lacking. So I may need to brew my own.

I'm sure gonna miss New Belgium Voodoo Ranger IPA, Citradelic and some great local brews, especially the dark stuff and the tangy Mosaic hops.

An upstart label in this area named Mighty Squirrel has been building a brewery and taproom about a mile and a half from my house. I've had a few of their beers from cans, pretty good stuff. Friday evening I went into that little shopping center for something else and discovered the parking lot jammed full. The taproom had opened, was doing a booming business. Gonna' be hard on the other businesses there though.

I love dark beer not a fan of IPA ... my fav is NBB 1554 , since Iíve been here in PNW I have really developed an affinity for Santiam Pirate Rum Stout . Of a Guinness is always appreciated as well.

Went riding with a friend on Thursday, 47+ years of cycling together off/on; he's also a competitive homebrewer, after the ride I sampled his pumpernickel-rye porter.

Fortunately, he had somewhere to go or I'd still be there drinking that stuff.

Too many good microbrews!

I had a pint of Atlantic Brewing's 04609 IPA with my pulled pork dinner at Mainely Meat BBQ in Town Hill, ME. For dessert I'm having some of their bluberry ale, the original BTW.

Velo de France, Vino de France. Essential together. Enjoy them to their finest. Nothing like Beaujolais when fresh and in season. And the Peugeot is a perfect foil de Velo. Pure art the two together, and poetic.
