BTW, this summer "Radler"-style beer was all the rage here in the Low Countries, which apparently has something to do with biking back in the Interbellum; as a promotion, they handed out bells and gave away 1920' style roadsters. It's lager mixed with lemon juice, and it's great after a ride. Really refreshing.

Actually, "Radler" is a bavarian invention (and a bavarian word meaning "cyclist").
On a hot summer saturday in 1922 Franz Kugler, proprietor of the beergarden "Kugler Alm" on the southern edge of munich, feared a massive onslaught of thirsty cyclists, so he stretched his beer supplies with lemon-flavoured lemonade. On that day, the "radlermaß" (=1 litre of beer for cyclists) was born. (At least, that is what the legend says. The Kugler Alm is still around and still a popular day-trip destination.)
It is created by mixing 1/2l of munich light with 1/2l of clear lemon-flavoured sweet lemonade. Using bavarian wheat beer works too, it will then be called "a Russ" (="Russian"). Nowadays, pre-mixed stuff can be bought in bottles but the purist and conoisseur will always prefer a fresh mix.

Other beer sorts (pilsener, Kölsch, Alt, Cider, Stout....) don't really work.

Homebrew! Just bought a couple kegs, regulator, and various other accouterments. Going to do a pear cider and Saisson later this month, and best of all won't have to bottle either.

Depends on the time of year/mood I'm in on what I like to drink. This time of year all the pumpkin beers are coming out. Am happy with a Corona & lime after a hot day of mowing or working in the garden. Big Sky's Heavy Horse and Anderson Valley's Winter Solstice will be my go-to's over the winter.

But since I spent 10 days on vacation in Destin, FL, I thought I'd relay along what my wife & I killed off just in the condo - doesn't include the meals & a couple nights out listening to music.
1/2 gallon cheap rum (frozen daq's)
1/2 gallon cheap tequila (frozen marg's)
pint of cheap vodka (bloody's)
2*6 packs of good beer
4*4 packs of Mike's "Harder" Lemonade
I think that about covers it
Probably won't have any hard liquor again until the next vacation.

And I still managed to ride some every day, including a 47 mi & 32 mi ride with the Emerald Coast Cycling Club. Good guys (& gals)

Used to be my go to but something changed in the last few years and it doesn't taste the same anymore. Maybe its me, maybe its them...i dunno but I've lost my taste for it.

I live in the land of Heady Topper and a hundred other world-class micro brews.... my standby is still good ol Guinness. Draught Can or Extra Stout.... don't give me those terrible draught bottles.

But to answer the Original question, for me it's not beer. Its Coca-Cola. Gimmie one of those mexican produced ones with the real cane sugar. Hell yeah.

Also the occasional Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster.

When I can find it, a nice hoppy black IPA. Otherwise, a stout or porter. In Portland, we have so much choice in beers. To the point that I'm being forced to ration myself, so as not to consume 3,000 calories/week in beer.

Usually either Bourbon or Rye. A manhattan on the rocks is my drink of choice. I make a lot of those at home, usually with orange and cherry bitters. Old fashions are good, too.

I have a kumquat bush in the yard. Gin & Tonics with kumquat are a nice twist.

Ever since a bad night in Tijuana while I was a teenager, I've never been able to stomach tequila. However, I recently discovered mezcal, which I find quite agreeable.

I few months ago I created a drink that is quite fantastic IMHO. I take a couple cups of milk and heat it to a slow simmer with heaping tablespoon of cinnamon (and a pinch of chili powder, optional). After that has simmered for a few minutes to infuse the cinnamon flavor into the milk, I strain the milk to get out the cinnamon (and optional chili powder) grounds. Pour in a large glass or other container and set in the refrigerator to cool. Prep as much milk as you may need for later.

Then:
2 oz. Kahlua
2 oz. cinnamon-infused milk
several shakes of Fee Bros. Aztec Chocolate Bitters
Serve over ice in a rocks glass.
garnish with cinnamon stick if you are feeling fancy.

Try it, you'll like it!

The post was tongue in cheek. When I was younger I spent a lot of time on the Colorado River; Day temps would hit 108 deg and the night temps wouldn't go below 80 deg; the amount of beer that we drank in a long weekend was staggering..

Some brewery around here brews a black IPA. I tried some and liked it but I never understood the concept. Shouldn't it be IBA? I mean, if it's black then it sure ain't pale, now is it?

Yeah, I know. The guy in the store tried to tell me it was hopped up like an IPA but it was black. I'm thinkin' to myself, this is not about the taste. It's about the name.

Yea, gettin' older is tough, though. After Saturday's 47 miler in the 95* heat + humidity, I came back and started right into the daq's, then went out on the beach. Knocked me for a dang loop. Had to take a short nap before dinner.

C & V guys have great taste. For me it's imperial stouts, scotch, and bourbon. Of course I'll drink any good craft brew too. Feel bad for all the times I've cycled while indulging!
