Vintage SuperChampion Rims...

Hey gang, I'm wanting to build up some light sew-up wheels for a mid '70s vintage hillclimber, using SuperChampion "Performance" rims. Supposedly, these weigh around 270 grams each.

I'm using 36 hole, Campagnolo large-flange, and butted stainless Sapim 14/15 spokes with brass nipps, laced x3. I'll be using a 25mm or larger section sew-up, likely the fat Dugast Pari-Roubaix cotton. I'm wondering how well the wheels will hold up under my 200 pound weight... I try not to be too abusive to my wheels. Will they last a while, or will they kill me?

Does anyone reading this have experience with the Performance model rim? Think it's too light for my intended use? I can substitute a heavier Arc-n-Ciel for the rear rim (looks the same), but will I need to?

I just got wheelsets with both of those types of rims. If you want to send me a set of those Dugast sew-ups, I'd be glad to pack on 35 pounds, do some road testing, and get back to you in about a year. :D

Ok... So I could stand to lose some weight before I really need the lighter bike... I am getting faster up my favorite hills though :) I thought it would be fun to put this bike together & ride it; it's a '75 Jack Taylor curve-tube frame I've had for a few years now.

If you happen to try out the wheelset with the Performance rims soon, let me know what you think of 'em.
