It's the second version with the steel dowel inside the steerer tube. I'm told that's OK by both Frank the Welder and @FBinNY.

1977 Cilo, Reynolds 531 with Shimano eyelet dropouts, full Nuovo Record, Concor saddle, 3TTT cockpit.
Commute is only 5kms/60m climb direct, but within the time and energy limit it can be extended horizontally and vertically. http://www.bikeforums.net/attachment...p;d=1410160525 http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=404674 |
I commute daily on my Daccordi in the nicer months. I get in 30 miles round trip. A lot of those miles go by quickly :speedy: . I ride a shorter, 23 mile combined route in winter months and drive on the really wet days or when icy.

I posted this in Commuting but I read this forum a lot more...my daily commute from home>internship>school>home is about 7 miles round trip. I'm hoping to get some fall/winter use out of it, which was actually a big factor in deciding to do this bike:

I've been riding my Super Sport, brought up to code with the wheels from my Paramount. It's not ideal; it's much better at being a road bike. I'd like a lower low gear, indexing, and sturdier rack mounting. However my dedicated commuter isn't ideal either (flat bar, suspension fork, undergeared, tires seem draggy). Some day soon I'll build up or buy exactly the bike I want. I'd expect it to be much like a Soma ES.

I commute 7.7 miles each way on my 1981 Panasonic Sport. Takes me 30-35 minutes.
Unless it's raining, then I'll ride my newer hybrid because it has fenders. But probably 90% of the time I'm on the Panasonic. |
I started back at commuting to work in April 2014 and went back to being car-free. Since then these are the bikes that see regular use:
1973 Raleigh Sports https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8348/...3492df7e_b.jpg 1983 Lotus Pegasus https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8523/...0f4fe4f4_b.jpg 1983 Ross Force 1 https://farm7.staticflickr.com/6146/...debe4400_b.jpg 1986 Specialized Rockhopper https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5556/...8774f1f7_b.jpg I also commute on a Mercier Kilo TT fixed gear bike quite often. 2011 so certainly not C&V https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3833/...a3700bb4_b.jpg |
@cobrabyte - nice bikes! I really like the Pegasus and Rocky!

That stumpjumper makes me want drops...

Thanks guys, it's actually a Rockhopper though, not a Stumpy :)

My commuting is sporadic......but always C&V
