Can anyone I.D. this frame & fork i found ? Possibly a 1970's Cinelli ?
Hi,
I recently found this frame and fork with a Campagnolo headset and bottom bracket that was headed for the landfill (It was in a scrap pile with old sheet rock and a hot water heater.) I mainly collect BMX stuff from the 70's and 80's, The era i used to race in and don't know a lot about vintage road bikes. * There are faded stickers on the head and seat tubes with a crest that say Cinelli, The head tube has 2 holes where a badge could have been attached at one time. * The frame and fork dropouts are stamped Campagnolo. * The bottom bracket has a 4 digit serial # beginning with 76, Possibly the year ? * Headset is stamped Campagnolo Italy BREV. * Bottom bracket is stamped 77-ss-120 36x24 F * Suntour front derailleur and cable clamps and Shimano crane rear derailleur. Any info. would be appreciated. |
Welcome to BF and C&V!
We would love to see what you found! Your description is a teaser! Show us some pics! Full frame and fork, head tube, seat cluster, bottom bracket, dropouts and decals. Any unique features like braze-ons |
Hi, Thanks for the welcome, I'm having trouble figuring out how to load the images. Any advice on how to do this would be appreciated.
Thanks |
Host on a picture site like flickr, photobucket etc. Then copy/paste or insert in the url. If loaded from you PC, make sure they are at least 1 MB or smaller.
|
Load the pictures to something like Flickr or Picasa, not Bike Forums. Get a link to the photo from the image hosting site and post it here with an [/IMG] at the back and [IMG] at the front.
In other news, SJX426 types faster than I do. |
Thanks, I'll have to give this a try, When i tried to use the upload manager it said the files were too big. I have very basic computer skills, Hopefully i'll have the pictures up later today.
|
If you right mouse click on the file name and select Open with and choose Microsoft Office 2010 or what ever, you can then click on the menu Picture to resize the picture to a small file size save as with a new name and upload.
|
For photos my personal preference is Photo Bucket. In your "library" you cursor over the pic you want to post and a "gear" icon will appear. Click that and then the "share links". Then in the next window choose the bottom "link" (IMG code), click, it'll say "copied" then paste that in the reply here. Like this picture:
Excuse my dusty bike, it gets to live in the garage and with the fires north of us, there's a ton of "crud" in the air. http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...psdacdc6ab.jpg |
I adjusted the settings on my camera and took a few new pictures for now, I'll give photo bucket a try later and try to get some better photos up.
Thanks |
Well, that looks pretty promising.

Don't know what it is, but I find it interesting!

How about a picture of the decal on the seat tube. Hate to say this but there are like 43 pages of head badges you could cruise through here:
VeloBase.com - Head Badge Gallery |
The seat stays certainly look like a Cinelli. Congrats, I think you just hit the lottery.
|
I'll try to get a close up of the seat tube sticker up later, The seat tube sticker is pretty faded, What i can make out is a crest with a ribbon at the bottom that has old-english type script that says sherlock although i'm not sure, It's hard to read.

The head tube on this bike has 2 holes where a badge would have been attached, Would that mean that it would of came with a badge instead of the sticker it has on it ?

The whole thing on the head tube doesn't make much sense. Championship stripes. Then over that a faded Cinelli decal. But two holes for a head badge. Weird. Frame looks like a Cinelli to my un-trained eyes, though. |

The seat tube badge has three fleur-de-lis on it so not a Cinelli badge. French maybe?

The sticker on the head tube does say Milano. Does anyone know if these bikes came with a sticker on the head tube instead of a badge ? The bottom bracket doesn't have any braised on cable guides underneath it like some of the bikes i have seen online, The frame has clamp on Suntour guides that rout the cables over the bottom bracket.http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=405429

I would love to see some more pictures of the lugs but I am mostly sure it is a Cinelli Supercorsa missing its badge and Decals (easy to rectify on a chrome frame). Because of the drain hole in the bottom bracket and the sport spring hole in the dropout it is mid sixties at the latest. No wolf ear lugs means it is 1960 at the earliest.
Very nice find. |
