Wax on, Wax off
 

The parts for the Faggin will be arriving soon. What i s the best protection for the ageing chrome? I keep seeing posts about waxing the frame, but franchement, I have no idea what to use. Opinions please!

...I use this stuff, after some polishing compound and a final cleanup, then wax over it with paste wax.

I forget, is there any surface rust? That's a whole can of worms. I most recently used Mother's 'Clay Bar System' and carnauba wax and am quite pleased with the results. Used on paint, chrome, and water transfers (no clear coat on top of transfers). No issues, no drama.

I have a can of this stuff. It's old and I can't remember why I bought it. Can you tell me what its purpose is? If, as you say, you use it after polishing compound (abrasive polishing, removing oxidation and imperfections, making things shiney) and go over it with paste wax (for protecting the shine made by polishing)..... what's the Nu Finish for? I guess I always thought it was the wax, and therefore using a paste wax over it would be redundant?

As for the original question - I have something in my box of polishes/waxes that is specifically called chrome polish. I got it in a motorcycle shop years ago on the recommendation of a Harley owner friend of mine. Auto parts stores sell specific products for polishing chrome, you might check there too.

I don't know if its available in France but in the U.S. 3M makes a clear spray on film protection for cars that might work. I haven't used it but have seen commercials and seen it in auto part stores.

...it's some kinda miracle polymer chemical contraption, and I'm not a chemist.
It seems to work well for me, and because of the difficulty of waxing a bike with all the
components, wheels, racks, cable clips, etc, installed on it versus a bare frame, I choose
to use it when a frame is stripped and ready for reassembly.

I use it. I'm not selling it. It works well in my conditions. YMMV

The paste wax, if anything, cuts down on the shine a little bit, but is simply an easily added layer of additional protection.

Chromium plate cannot be polished; it can only be cleaned with a non-abrasive liquid, then protected.
