I always ride with a Garmin 500 but it's always in my pocket. It's too distracting when it's mounted on the bars.

:backpedal: Allowance for me to speak of my sweetie. Its really a play and more of my silent humor. To putz around, we have two completely different types of folders but this is the one I set up for her. Cracks me up everytime about the mattress saddle but also the speedometer. And yes, does she ever love this bike! The best part is the speedo reads optimistic making the odo rack up more than realistic. She felt quite proud when it exceeded whatever hundred milestone. I didn't have the heart to tell her its not actual.

BWTM..... ;)
I just can't help it, (er, no maybe its me who needs the help.)

She also has a beloved Huffy Kathy Ireland edition. The cockpit is to die for. Actually the grandkids dig riding this one. And no, its not for sale- lol.

edit: This thing deserves some merit. Just realized this bike has been sitting outside all Summer long, unlocked.

Good candidate for 3D printing! Design your own dashboard for your bike!

On C&V steel, with a group, no.
By myself or with a modern bike, yes.

I'm really not sure why, but it likely has to do with a quill stem.

I just recently took my speedometer/computer off my bikes a few days ago (I was going to start a post on this very subject...lol).
I found them to be distracting and I was always looking to see my speed, miles etc.
I have been riding long enough to know my distance and speed.
(I used to guess my speed then look at the speedometer and I was 95% accurate with my estimate).

It is liberating to just get on my bike(s) and ride, I spend more time enjoying the scenery and the ride.
I saw a red fox on the trails the other day, what a beautiful animal, and I would have missed her if I had my speedometer because I would have been looking at that instead of nature.

I shelled out hard-earned money to buy a speedometer for my Sting-Ray when I was 12. It was great fun until the cable attachment, which attached to the spokes, got caught in said spokes. Haven't had one since.

When I feel like tracking distance, speed, and elevation changes, there are a number of smart-phone apps that do that. I prefer to just set and forget the app then check my stats when I get home.

If riding around town, no. If on the open road, always.
