I was fortunate enough to pick up a second-hand Mavic MA40 wheel at a co-op today on the cheap. I'm familiar with the red and the green label versions they've got listed on Velobase, but I've never seen the label that came on my new one until today. Anyone know when they used this style?

(Ultimately I'm going to replace the existing decals with reproduction red labels to better fit the era of the bike, but I'm curious for curiosity's sake.)

Wow that's a new one to me. Very useful and comfortable riding all around rims though.

Bit of an update... I was able to find some Mavic technical documents online that cover the era of 1997-2007, and it appears that the MA40 was in production until 1999! I had no idea they were still being made that late. Per the history section on the Mavic website, the oval logo replaced the rectangular one in 1996. Given all of that, apparently I've got a 1996-1999 (or thereabouts) version of the MA40.

I had an older MA40 on the rear, mismatched with a 195NE (another one I haven't been able to find out much on, I think it's someone's OEM version of something else) on the front. Now I've got a more matched set.

Yeah I knew they were making them through the '90s. Used to be a quality go-to riding/training rim for lots of folks. I actually laced some up for someone else once but used various Wolbers myself just to be different.

The guy that I bought my Fuji Pro (as a frame & fork), threw in a rear MA40 with a Campy hub that he had kicking around in the garage. I've been scanning CL for months now hoping that a front would pop up, to save me paying for shipping.

Now, I've just got to wait for my current Gatorskins to wear out. Folding bead Contis and MA40's are far from a fun combination when it comes time to mount / unmount one of those bastards.

Never mounted those particular Contis but sometimes it pays to let the air completely out and pull the beads down into the channel of the rim when you get towards the end with some of these.
