Dyno Glide GT Need some help pls.
 

Hello!

I have found a stock Dyno Glide GT (not cruiser) but 7 speed on Ebay. Purchased it, was sent to me but in parts. I've put it back together mostly except I am having issues with the derailler (shimano 7SIS) and not sure if it broke during shipping or if I am putting it back together wrong.

Here is a picture of the derailler and it's not giving tension to the chain? If anyone can point me in the right direction I'd really appreciate it! Thank you so much!

Your chain is routed incorrectly. The routing is pretty standard for most, if not all, rear derailleurs, so just try to follow the chain path defined in this picture...

Looking at your picture, it seems the chain is actually in the right way, but the derailler itself won't push forward for some reason. In your picture the part with the Cran Sport name is pointing down, on mine it stays in the backwards upside down position. It does pivot and if I hold it in place, it looks like yours - if I don't then it looks like the picture I originally posted. Maybe just get a new derailler?

Yeah, chain is routed properly but I don't think that frame was designed for a derailleur. The hole that small bolt is in is for fenders. You'll need to drill and tap a new hole pretty much right behind where the axle is, just a little above the axle, not right on top as in your setup there. Then there's usually a crescent shaped ridge on the derailleur claw that might keep it from sitting properly, so you'll have to file that down. Removing and replacing the rear wheel would be kind of a PITA with this setup but...

Also, that rear derailleur may be broken. Sometimes you can push the cage back so it sits back there where it belongs and the springs work again, sometimes you can take apart that pivot and put it back where it belongs but sometimes it's just borked.

Thanks all for the replies. After working on it, cleaning the derailler etc. I decided enough was enough and it was broken. Went to the local Trek store and must have been my lucky day. Told them the one I did have and the replacement shimano was 20 bucks but rang up 11. Cha ching. Installed it and it is working just fine now. Really wanted to keep the original parts on it, but also just want to get out there riding. Thanks again!!! :)
