I have recently brought this bike to restore but it has come without a chain guard .could anyone please help with the model of the bike and if this bike originally had a guardhttp://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=410468

What brand of bike is it? If it has one, can you post a picture of the head badge? Can you post a picture from the drive side?

Based on the fork crown and the, mostly hidden, crank set, my guess would be a Raleigh. It would, most likely, have been issued with a chain guard.

Judging by the fork crown and the little can see of the chain ring, I'm guessing it's a Raleigh; and you'll find a replacement chain guard, perhaps not quite the right color, on ebay. For example:
