reinstall spring on Dia-compe levers
my gran compe levers have a spring which gets fastened by an aluminum screw near the cable end on the lever. the screw loosened and was lucky to find both pieces in the lever arm. I've been trying to reinstall the spring for a few weeks with no success. Any one have a idea how, I haven't taken the lever apart yet to try. Will upload a photo when I figure out how to make smaller.

Rats. I apologize for lack of pics (I dumped pics in photobucket soon after, not thinking).

Superglue the spring screw into the eyelet and let dry. Get the spring into position with a screwdriver on the screw, when you feel the screw engaging threads start turning the screw and the superglue will easily break free.

good idea with the glue, does the pivot pin need to be removed, I tried a few taps when I noticed scratches on the black anodizing

ETA: by the way, I ended up with a lost spring from the many snowy trips to and from the shop and house. One lever has a spring, the other does not. No difference by my discerning. Even with the missing pics you might get a hint from what I had posted each of the steps in the procedure. |

was away this weekend, will give it a try this week
did you need to remove the pivot pin, seems like reassembly may be more difficult with the pin out |

If I recall, the pin needs to be in so the spring will be in place. Reach through the oval access port on the lever. You will feel the screw engage the threads and with little pressure the glue will break loose.
