C & V...your ONLY ride? Or your ONLY for FUN ride??
just like the title says...I am wondering if most of you only ride C & V, or if you have some newer transportation as your main ride...but have C & V as your fun/relaxing ride.
I have 4 bikes:
1973 Raleigh Supercourse - Daily Commuter.
1981 Bianchi Limited - recently moved to #1 spot.
1984 Torpado Super Strada - turned into cool Townie.
2001 Lemond Nevada City - moved from #1 .
What do you have? And what roles do they fill?

'81 AD = fendered Rain Bike
'91 Fisher = fendered off-roadie
'03 Ti Macalu = longer rides with lots of climbing (triple chainring)
'99 Calfee = fast rides with other cyclists
all other roadies = those fun 20 - 30 miles on a good day.
Bridgestone CB-0 = City rider
Trek beach cruiser = beach trips
Rocky Mt. = suspension days (compliments of my son)
edit: Co-Motion tandem = garage hanger

My favorite bike to ride is my '86 De Rosa. It doesn't matter who I'm with or what kind of riding I'm doing, for the most part. Now that I finally got some Conti GP4000S 25's, even more so.
I don't ride my other "main" C&V because it's a compact and I don't need one around here. Maybe I'll let it out for a run one of these days.
I don't ride my De Rosa if:
1-Any chance of it being unattended, falling over, getting stolen, getting wrecked.
2-Getting wet with anything besides my perspiration.
3-It's going to be flat and very fast with a bunch of other modern bikes. I can ride a modern bike in those cases, so I do.
It's my dirtiest bike, all the time.

I have two Schwinn Super Sport bikes, a 1970 SS, and a 1985 SS. I actually prefer the ride and feel of the 1970 SS better because of the softer seat--replaced the original with a softer seat--and the wider tire and lower pressure providing a smoother ride. Yes, the older bike is 10 lbs heavier, but I ride mostly on flat terrain, so the weight is not a factor.

It all depends.
When I was sick the last three weeks with pneumonia all I wanted to do was gravel and singletrack.
This is my favorite time of the year to go off road.
C&V? Always part of the bike puzzle for me, but never the only one.
Way too limiting.

All my bikes are vintage, and pretty much period correct regarding major components, but I do make exceptions for wear items: bar tape, saddles, chain, e.g.
My daily commuters are a 1989 Peugeot Versailles and a 70's CILO, soon to be joined by a 80s Ross Gran Tour, to be set up with fenders for those sketchy weather days. My beater/workhorse for heavy shopping trips or locking up outside the pub when the occasion arises is a 1982 Univega Viva Touring, which can also serve as a fallback for commuting if needed.
My nostalgia/pleasure bikes are a 1978 Motobecane Grand Jubilé, which I've owned since new, a 1976 Raleigh Gran Sport, and a 1976 Empire Professional, currently undergoing restoration. These I ride in rotation on the one hour workout rides that I like to do on weekends, to supplement commuting miles missed due to weather or other circumstances.

C&V is not my only transportation. When we head off to a gig and need to carry instruments and sound gear, or when we just need to go far enough comfortably in a short time, we take the 2012 (IIRC) Caravan. All the rest are C&V. '80 Triumph Spitfire, '70 Triumph GT6, and a bunch of bikes from '72 to '87.

My my main commuter is a 1987 Peugeot, my inclement weather bike is a 1986 Peugeot and my fun bike is a 1972 Peugeot PX-10.
I really like the way the Peugeots' ride, I don't even ride my other C&V bikes anymore..
Someday I would love to have a modern Peugeot, but I will probably wait until they are C&V...lol

89 Fisher mtb for daily commuting-- is that C&V? Sort of, I guess.
Got a 95 Kestrel I haven't built up yet, it's almost 20 years old but I don't consider it C&V either.
Everything else is older steel road bikes.

They are all fun.
Most time is on the commuter.
Weekends are split. Saturday I ride modern. Sunday is for vintage.

Southern Rail answers your questions.
My commuting usually gets split between the Bianchi, the Raleigh, and the Peugeot, with the occasional commute on the Centurion. Fun rides (some combination of adventurous, fast, or long) are usually on the Masi or the Motobecane, though they have done commutes too. The most miles are done on the Peugeot tandem, and the most orange rides are done on the Bertin.

C&V is my primary road ride when not commuting, though one does get used that way occasionally. Commute is on an '11 Surly LHT. Tuesday/Thursday group MtB ride is '12 Trek EX-8 or '06 Kona Unit. Every 4-5 weeks we take out the '95 Santana Visa.
So, C&V probably qualifies as the fun ride. Unless of course the fun ride is a weekend MtB ride.
Too many toys and not enough time. That is the issue.

I am recreational rider... 2000 miles a year. I ride modern bicycles... nothing special just entry level bikes. My daily rider is a 1.1 Trek and I have a Fuji newest as a rain/back-up bike.
But when I was a kid I owned a barely used (one year old) 63 Schwinn Varsity. For some reason I still have a passion for 10 speeds with down tube shifters. Right now I have a Nashbar and a Univega (both road bikes). I like owning and wrenching on them as well as taking them for a ride. It's fun to forgo the kit and ride wearing street clothes. The C&V bikes rotate and come and go... but I always have one or two... always with down tube shifters and toe cages.

My dirty bike is my Raleigh Team Pro, dating to 1980. It's also my newest bike. I'm hoping to show off just how dirty it is this Saturday.

My daily commuter is now a Colnago 92 Thorne, not my favorite. My favorite is the Bianchi X4, that only goes out on sunny Sunday's and as the weather is changing the Bianchi is becoming art for the winter.

My commuters are old bikes: a 1988 stumpjumper comp, a 1993 bridgestone BB-1, and a 1969 robin hood. I have one C&V bike I ride on a regular basis, a 1993 Bridgestone XO-2. I love the combination of road geometry with plush 26 wheels and tires. My regular bikes are modern steel bikes: a soma doublecross and a salsa casseroll (the ginger one with long reach brakes).
