Come to think of it, when we had our lake house I used to ride a 1950's woman's Schwinn Hornet. A lazy old cruiser. In two tone brown / white. A bit beat up with a few dings and rust. Had a 'bike buoy' mounted to the bars for my coffee mug, fishing pole and tackle box strapped to the heavy duty rear rack. Kind of like Mayberry RFD and riding Aunt Bee -hahaha.

I do have a red early 80s Mercier (waiting to be built).
Here's the closest thing I have to the afore mentioned pink beach cruiser:
My 1973 Motobecane Riviera folder - SA 3 speed, low mileage, new tires, freshly overhauled - all for $100!
I bought for riding to the store.
As for the pink ladies step through beach cruiser... for starters, it's too small for me; secondly, the last time I rode a cruiser/bomber was probably about 1953!
It it were a light weight (26" wheels), then I'd have no problem riding it. It's the balloon tires and Ashtabula crank that get me!

I think that the mixte design is elegant. Here's a collection of mixte bike pictures that I assembled a while back (none are mine).

I saw a couple of mamachari bikes on the local market two years ago but didn't have the money to grab either of them. (They have room for huge baskets on the front and feature a bipod kickstand like the one on the bike you posted.) I haven't seen any since 2012- one of those was even pink - but maybe I should put money in my savings account in case I do see another one so I won't miss out this time around.

Heh. I was out for a ride along the local (busy) MUP with my GF this past June and I got a flat many miles from home - I didn't have a spare. We decided I'd ride home to grab my car while she waited at a nearby parking lot with my incapacitated bike.
I hauled @$$ all the way home on her sparkle green step-through Scwinn Suburban replete with white walls, fenders, girly basket, and a frame that is several sizes too small. The only things missing were handlebar streamers and maybe some spoke beads..and a tutu/cod-piece. I was grinning like an idiot and had a blast - passed quite a few roadies, too. I'm sure I was quite the sight. I got many smiles and chuckles.
In answer to your question: absofrigginlutely.

Couldn't resist....
This made the news last week. Woman riding a Divvy rental ON the shoulder of the Dan Ryan EXPRESSWAY - CHICAGO! Regardless of no helmet (what difference would it make) she sporting earbuds but I'm surprised she wasn't texting or putting on her make-up.

In college, I dusted off my stepmother's Montgomery Ward 5-speed and rode it to school all the time. I never locked it, often let it sit in front of the science building for hours, if not days. Finally, somebody stole the beast. A few weeks later, I spot the bike with a new paintjob chained up on a rack. I left a note "nice bike! wherever did you get it?" the bike left campus, never to return. I was just happy somebody was enjoying it; didn't care about it getting stolen at all.
I've also ridden my wife's pink mixte Peugeot around the neighborhood but it's a bit small for me.
I'm manly enough to ride whatever and not give a rat's rear what anyone else thinks. I once demoed a WSD Trek Domane that rode so well I seriously considered getting it. The "male" version rode just as well when I went to my LBS later so I ended up with it.

Oh, please. Any guy can pull of riding a step-through or mixte frame without their manhood being called into question. It's really not as much of a statement as some of the "I don't believe in gender roles" camp is making it out to be.
Want to REALLY prove you're secure in your manhood?
Ride this bike:
wearing this:
Gender roles be damned, right fellas?

Depending upon the time of day, she could well be going faster than the cars. It appears that way in the picture.

Yes. I've inherited my grandmother's Schwinn Suburban, a fantastic ride even if several sizes too small (I'm 6'2", she's 5'). I bought a fixer-upper Coast-to-Coast 3 speed with rear basket that is much easier to mount as a step-through when laden with groceries.
For our 10th anniversary my wife and I bought "comfort bikes" (10th is aluminum ) The only reason I didn't get a step-through is because they didn't make them in my size. When I rode with the child seat in back it was a major PITA to mount because I couldn't swing my leg over the proportionately high handlebars and I often wished for a step-through. In fact, for a while we had it mounted to the Suburban before we got a trailer that I really couldn't pull without the proper sizing and wide gearing of the comfort bike.
For it those that wouldn't ride one because they "don't like the looks" - to each their own. I personally don't mind them at all, some are quite beautiful. I have found some diamond frames to be quite repulsive because of their extreme, unsymmetrical geometry.
Lastly, Im also someone who lost their mother's mixte (Univega) at college. Never locked it, but a fool and his bike are soon parted...

Steel is steel; I was raised on the back of my mother's Puch mixte & have utterly no qualms about it.

I ride with a couple of women whose bikes I would never ride!
That little experiment would put the lie to my excuse that they are faster than me because their bikes are lighter.

I was just thinking, I grew a beard at about the time I started riding my Peugeot mixte.
That's weird.
