Thinking about shining things up.

I guess I'm bored, but I'm probably going to shine to a mirror finish some of the components on my '84 Colnago Nuovo Mexico. I know the pros and cons to doing such a thing insofar as "to restore or not to restore" but I'm 99 percent sure it's going to happen. Should this be done by a professional or is this something I can do myself and if so, what's the technique and what products do I use? By the way, we're talking Campy Super Record crankset and Cinelli handlebars which have a brush finish. The stem is black, so no shining there.
