If you had to jettison your Classic/Vintage bikes, but could only keep 2, which ones?

Right this moment, I'd say

1) my '71 Raleigh International because it's my commuter, grocery hauler, fendered, basketed, dyno-lighted workhorse, and with some modification, would be fine as regular road bike:

2) my '76 Wes Mason, which is a lightweight, non-fendered road bike with a compact double crankset and 6-speed friction drivetrain. I completed a 300k ride on this bike back in June:

Next week, I might offer a different pair.

What's the definition of C/V? Like is there a year cutoff? If so I'll be saved and get to keep my Paramount and C'dale since their both early 90's bikes. Otherwise the 1980 inelli Super Corsa and Guerciotti (Pre TSD) would be keepers.

First choice is easy: Look Bernard Hinault 753. Next is more difficult but would have to be my Parkpre road--mainly for sentimental reasons. It was my teenage race bike (along with the Look), and is basically irreplaceable. My Speedwell is almost irreplaceable as well, but is more of a wall hanger that only gets ridden occasionally. Of those left behind, I'd likely miss my Cilo Pacer (531 frame & forks) most. Gets daily usage as commuter & about-town bike and would leave the biggest void.

That's okay. The OP asked for two bikes and posted three.

I went through downsizing this summer, sold three bikes and gave four to family members. Sold a '90 Trek 1000, '83 500, 83 600, gave my son '79 710, my son-in_law '96 930, grandsons '93 930, '92 1000 to daughter.
I was going to sell my '96 1220, or 2005 LeMond Etape but couldn't part with them. Also going to keep my '87 560 Pro Series and '85 420 those two fit me the best and are in the best condition.
I still have three at sons house and three each at my two daughters houses. I think that's enough downsizing for now.

C&V is like pr0n. "I know it when I see it."

I personally think around 1994 is a good cutoff- Suntour was gone and Ultegra and XT changed, pretty much no one was making lugged bikes on a big scale and Bridgestone pulled out of the US market.

I would just tear down the other bikes and have the frames hanging and the parts in boxes. The assembled ones would be:

The 1972 Frejus (in the style of Legnano). Old pic, now sports proper red cotton bar tape & Campy hoods.

and I'm not sure on #2 - probably one of my projects, either the '72 CNC or this '73 Holdsworth

And if you can't tell, yes, the fork is bent. It's not bent anymore. My BF inspired bending jig took care of it.

My two are:

Miyata 1000 - my mile munching Miyata...get on it and ride, ride, ride
Bridgestone XO-1 - just such a unique bike...and it was my grail...

CLOSE third - Raleigh Super Course...another bike I adore...

Good answer.

My keepers:

'83 Nuovo Mexico (this one's been getting a lot of screen time on the forum today...)

'84 Pro Tour 15 (loooong term project including major surgery, cosmetic and structural)

And since the Centurion is currently a frameset only with some parts stashed away, rendering it technically exempt...I'd hang onto my (well, my father's old) Rockhopper

(No full pics handy)

...I'm glad this is just a thought experiment.

If I had to jettison all but two, I'd keep the Masi, the Motobecane, the Bianchi, the Raleigh, and both Peugeots (tandem and UO8). And maybe the Centurion too. Not necessarily in that order.

I'd also ensure that 'the others' hung around purely as loaners to friends and family - not my bikes per se. I'm generous like that.

Of course I'd also ride those from time to time just to make sure they don't go stale from neglect.
