Guys, Had a bad night. Went to remove the front axle and bearings for cleaning. The keeper and the bearing tension adjustment nut were like welded together. When I finally broke them apart the bearing ( see pic ) seal came off. Can't say I'm not at fault my spanner might have cocked when it finally broke free. I imagine these seals are pressed on and once they are forced off that's the end. The seal passes easily over the entire nut as you can see. Any miracle cures? Any good leads where I could get a new axle?

Was able to restore the dust cap so that it pressed back on the cone. A 9/16 socket fit into the dust cap snuggly. Put the dust cap on a piece of plywood, put the socket into the grease holding side of the dust cap, a few taps on the socket and like magic the dust cap I.D. was restored to the proper dimension. Thought it might come in useful for someone else.

Almost finished cleaning, relubing that Schwinn but have one item left that I'm not familiar with. It has a ( see pic ) a Cannondale velco water bottle holder. I have found some of these 'vintage' holders on ebay but they are the type that clamp to the frame and I haven't found a picture of the water bottle part. So my question is. Is the part that attaches to the bike frame velcro piece another piece that clamps to the water bottle or do you stick velcro on a regular water bottle? ( don't ask why I just don't go out and buy a normal cage, I wouldn't be able to explain it). Thanks.

The bottle had Velcro glued to it. I bought one back in '81, I hated it. One of my recent purchases had one on it with the original bottle, I gave it back to the seller.

Finished

Finally finished getting the bike ready for donation to the co-op and had a few days where the weather cooperated so I wouldn't have to clean and relube the chain again. Had the freewheel not engage twice on the first test ride. Gave it a good soak and lube and did 10 miles without incident. The co-op buys handle tape by the barrel so they said they will replace the foam grips much cheaper than I could. Gave up on that velcro water bottle holder that came with the bike when I found it - seems like a bad idea as others pointed out in the fourm. Thanks to all of you for your help. Here is pic of the final product.

That bike you have is a 1987 Schwinn World, I myself acquired a 23 inch model, 27 inch wheels/tires, its color is Blue Grey
