SPD pedals with french thread
Has anyone ever heard of Shimano SPD pedals with French threaded axles?

Did Shimano produce any kind of French-threaded parts, ever? French thread SPD pedals seem even less likely, since French threading went extinct at around the same time as clipless pedals became popular.
For what it's worth, retapping French-threaded cranks to use standard threading is a simple operation.

I wonder if LOOK even made French threaded pedals

I've been a road rider right through the clipless transition which started in earnest with LOOK in the mid-80s.
I give it a one in 1,000 chance that Shimano, or anyone else, produced a clipless pedal system that was French threaded.
Any minute, some smart persion is going to respond that Henri Desgrange or some other long-dead guy patented a French-threaded clipless system in 1921, but I am not talking about ancient history here.
Get you crankarms retapped to standard threading. The shop did mine in about 10 minutes for about $10 each.
Or, since we're talking about 30 year old crankarms here (at least) - I suggest an updated crankset. I retired my old Sugino Mity French threaded crankarms years ago, due to concerns about fatigue and failure.
