They just followed me home and is this a PX10?

After buying a set of bars and stem for my velo cheapo on eBay locally, I picked them up and was asked if I wanted to check out his old bike stuff he wanted to sell. How could I say no, that would be just rude.
The guy had been in an accident which wrecked his back and was getting rid of most of his bike stuff.
This is what I got
An 80's Gitane Criterium flat bar conversion geared for some hill racing the guy did,
A trek 1220, no wheels and kinda crusty
A trek 5200 carbon that he had his accident on, cracked carbon frame but almost all the Ultegra is there.

And what I am fairly sure is a PX10 (but then isn't everyone sure they have just bought a PX10). Any input on this is hugely appreciated. I will seperate it from the herd for a more thorough photoshoot.

I think so but a picture of the frame which is a picture of only the frame and not all this foreground stuff would help.

Very excited to post these, and just finished all the img tags for the individual photo shoot, all these photos and I still want the Gitane as the keeper even with the probability of being to small

jyl 12-17-14 06:27 PM

Yes, and in very nice shape too!

Chombi 12-17-14 06:51 PM

Very nice condition PX10!:thumb:
Everything seems to check out with the full 531 tubeset and the chrome socks on both ends of the frame. One thing that caught my eye though is the differeng brands of dropoouts with Simplex rears and Campy fronts. Is that normal?
Just make sure you touch up the scratches caused by the PO when a sidestand clamp was installed on the frame, so it does not rust......plus that kind of cosmetic damage on the bike is definitely "cringe-worthy" to most PX10 race bike fans.....
Congratulations on the great ac:thumb::thumb:quisition!

I hate those clamp on stands, at least it wasn't over tightened on there. A great accessory to trash a bike, and thanks to you, Tom, jyl and Chombi for confirming what I hoped and for the compliments.

she's a beaut; I'm jealous, :thumb:

RoadGuy 12-17-14 07:07 PM

What size is the Trek 1220?

Let me know if you decide to sell it, I'd be interested.

cyclotoine 12-17-14 07:09 PM

it even came with the french headset and BB. score!

elboGreaze 12-17-14 07:10 PM

If it were me , I would have been rude and said no . ( Nice haul ! )

Grand Bois 12-17-14 07:35 PM

Yes, it's definitely a PX10, and in nice, unmolested shape.

The Gitane would be my keeper, too. It would be too small, but I'd make it work. My favorite brand and my favorite color. I'd definitely have to change the gearing!

Kactus 12-17-14 08:21 PM

A PX-10 with a kick stand... sacrilege! I too wondered if the Campy front dropouts are correct or not.

Arn't the forks on that pugeot bent? I thought all peugotes had s-curved forks?! :)

Nice find and I hope that it rides well. :)

In addition to your excellent taste in bikes, your taste in footware is superb. I like your Batman slippers!;)

gbi 12-17-14 09:50 PM

Hello rgver,

The crown and dropouts on the fork seem odd.

The fork may or may not be original.

Awesome! Makes me think you've got a playful spirit!

The PX-10 is cool, but I like the fact that one of those bikes was taken up Mt. Washington (my top bucket list ride) - that's really cool!

I echo the sentiments about the marks left from the stand. I've always subscribed to the credo that any bike with a kickstand is a POS ;)

Nice score across the board!

I wondered if anyone else would notice that. Campy fork ends?
I doubt the fork is original.

RobbieTunes 12-18-14 06:35 AM

Generally, a french hottie at the level of a PX10 won't follow you home.
You will have spend considerable money on enticements, and actually act interested.

SJX426 12-18-14 06:46 AM

Nice haul!
Interesting comments on the fork. Does it look like a Trek 760 fork the '84 time period? I believe the fork for the 760 had a "Sword" feature on the crown like this one. The reason I ask is I would like to find one that would fit on a 60 frame.
