EMBICI Road Bike W/ Heart Shapes In Lugs.. HELP Identify

Hello, I acquired this EMBICI road bike and unable to find any info. It has heart shape cut outs in the lugs. Rear brake cable goes through the top tube. Carbon handle bars- CINELLCA OR CINETLCA. Full Edco competition. Campagnolo rear dropouts. No serial number anywhere. Parallel cut outs in the bottom bracket. It has a nipple behind the head tube for a pump. Other than that, is EMBICI just stickers from a race? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Drive side photos, and close ups of the joins would help a lot. Looking forward to seeing what you have.

It's not letting me upload the photos I took. So I'll have to try again tomorrow.

Many users find it convenient to archive their photos on a free photo site such as Flickr. Then you can copy the image URL, click on the little photo icon in the Reply window, and paste the URL into the field. (Be sure to unselect the check box if you do this.)

The lugs are nothing special - just box stock Prugnat S4's. Pretty bike, though. And the bar and stem are Cinetica: a Cinelli model name.

I think it's some house-brand for a shop or importer, probably built by one of the big contractors (like Bilotti or similar) which is by NO means a slur/slag/slam...but it's that EDCO gruppo that's the REAL score...THAT is something you don't see every day!
Was there some Swiss connection in this bike's travels?

Rare gruppo, exotic bars, fine Italian frame, yes!

Well worth a good deep clean and perhaps some other handlebar covering.

Cinetica handlebars and stems were not related in any way to Cinelli the company, but rather were produced for Andrea Cinelli after he was no longer involved with Cinelli the company. While the bars are ostensibly carbon, they are not to be confused with modern-day carbon.

The bike frame itself is typical of any of the many contract builders that existed in Italy in the 80's when this frame was likely built. Nothing particularly special. By the way, as stated, the lugs are stock items.

I would not go so far as to say it is a fine frame, in my eyes it is an honest workmanlike frame that will give wonderful service.

As regards the handlebar covering, this is actually quite nice period-correct and suits the bike wonderfully.

Very nice!

Very clean and I love the paint job. That gruppo is certainly something special to. How well does it perform? Any idea what kind of tubing this bike uses? I don't see a tubing sticker anywhere.

I was always under the impression that in order to use "World Champion" color decals, the bike actually had to have been ridden by a World Champion. Any truth to that?

Lovely, unique bike, enjoy!

That's the rule, but it is sometimes violated: one trick to avoid legal prosecution (which probably almost never happened anyway) was to change the order of the colors in the band, maybe just adding those white stripes to the top and bottom gives the abuser legal butt-cover. Easier still is to just flip the band upside-down.

Not to pile on, but though the EDCO gruppo is a rare thing (I said so myself) it looks to be mainly a re-badge of Sachs Aris gruppo, so mainly just a novelty...functionally should be just what Sachs Aris provided.

A lot good things said so far and much appreciated. As far as some of the questions, I'm unsure of the type of tubing because there was no sticker stating it. Hopefully be able to figure it out with some more investigation. I'm not sure how it rides yet with the Group because I'm waiting for some sealed bearings. Once I do I will reply. The handlebar tape is different which I like and think I'll keep because it's still in great shape. As far as the world champion decals, I still haven't been able to find any serial numbers anywhere.

I don't know how it feels in your hands, but I rather like the bar wrap myself.

The tape feels good and I've been searching for similar style tape, but nothing yet.

.
Thanks for confirming that.

I've seen other bikes with the Championship decals that weren't ever ridden by a champ, so yeah, this is just a loose rule. But who knows, maybe somewhere deep down in the lineage of this bike a champion did actually have a connection to the bike, the company or the builder, no matter how loosely connected they were. It would be interesting to find a connection.

You could measure the seat post to find out the tubing.

A 27.2 would likely indicate Columbus SL tubing and if it is *****d inside, it could be SLX. Both are the best Columbus offered at the time. I believe that a 26.2 would indicate Aelle tubing, which is a lesser steel, but IMHO, still quite nice...

It does measure 27.2. I don't see any seems down inside. It also looks very black inside. It's amazing how much knowledge is out here.
