just tell us about the first ride you plan to do in the new year.

Here on the east coast of North America, the new year is less than twelve hours away. Father east, it has already begun. But I'll guess no one here has actually finished their first ride of the year, right? But I'm sure you have a plan, right? (paging @RobbieTunes, he has a plan for everything). So tell us about your first ride of the year. Before you ride it, that is.

Dr. TimmyT and I are going to celebrate Jan 1 with a century, just a loop around eastern Long Island, taking in some South Fork, Shelter Island, and part of the North Fork. I want to be out on the bikes well before dawn so we're back before sunset.

I'm going to ride to work. Roads will be empty, the air cool, and I'll start 2015 off car free.

I was planning to ride around the block at midnight wearing only a diaper yelling Happy New Year, but my wife said no!! So I guess I will put on warm clothes and take a short ride along the River in the morning. :)

I will turn left at the front gate of the Golden Sands villa in Jamaica. Up a fifteen foot hill then through an sparsely populate area and then down the Fort Charles road, a coastal goat trail between the villa and Black River, Jamaica.

The Fort Charles road cuts through gorgeous cliffs, bird song filled jungle, hot and cactus strewn arid area, up a great bike hill, which I named Broken Chain Hill and then through the five or so miles of alligator infested swamp(actually looked down one day to see a four foot lizard, mouth wide open, sunning with-in ten feet of me and the bike).

Once past the swamp, another couple of miles on a much wider goat trail, into the town of Black River. The ride back will be much tougher than the ride there - I will be carrying supplies on the way back to Mrs. Me, who spends her time guarding the beach. And this is what I will be riding...

Beautiful ride you have planned, but your not going to be able to see much through that ski cap, face mask and hood you'll be wearing!

I've done the east end a couple of times and it is really nice, but I do it in the spring, summer and fall. Your hardier than me!:thumb:

I'm hoping I can get in a coffee run which would be a five mile ride. But.... around the neighborhood would be better than nothing if that is all the weather allows.

nlerner 12-31-14 12:42 PM

It's going to be cold here in Boston tomorrow, but it'll be sunny and dry, so I'll try and suck it up and get out for a couple of hours.

PeregrineA1 12-31-14 12:46 PM

We got some rare snow on our local mountains, so we will be doing a non-C&V MTB ride up into the snow. About 35 miles and 3,500' of climbing on two track.

noglider 12-31-14 12:49 PM

Something scenic. I'm visiting the Puget Sound, so that will be easy.

gomango 12-31-14 01:42 PM

If it gets into the 20s I'll grab my neighbor's Mukluk and head down to the Mississippi river bottoms for some fat tire fun.

Shp4man 12-31-14 01:55 PM

I plan on getting lots of slimy mud on mountain bike wheels due to the recent rains.:)

jimmuller 12-31-14 02:08 PM

We may take the tandem out for a rode but I'm not sure what riads we'll go on. I can't tupe any better than anyone else. :D

Chrome Molly 12-31-14 02:10 PM

I'm leading a 2 hour indoor ride at the local Y tomorrow for a full studio (21 other riders). I figure that ought to get me in the mood to lay on the couch and watch football.

David Newton 12-31-14 02:42 PM

I'm planning to ride all 2 of my bikes tomorrow (and today also) on the same basic loop I do most days. There has been some road construction on a part of the loop where they are digging in some huge storm water drain boxes, so the street is all muddy & rocky, I pass thru the barricades and get a bit dirty.
It is cold in Texas, not as cold as most of you have, but the wet-cold goes right through my doubled T-shirts for an uncomfortable ride.
First loop I'll warm up on the Bridgestone with the fat (32) tires, then swap over to the Vianelli and pretend like I'm headed to Roubaix on unpaved roads.

Edit: I didn't ride at all, rained all day, and it is supposed to rain all day tomorrow. Rats!

rccardr 12-31-14 03:47 PM

Long spin class for me tomorrow. Under 40 degrees, I just wuss out

lostarchitect 12-31-14 04:17 PM

How am I supposed to ride when I'm hung over? I'll wait until January 2nd!

seedsbelize 12-31-14 05:49 PM

I hadn't planned a ride, in part because I was somewhat unaware that it was a holiday tomorrow(I realized it this afternoon). The weather is guaranteed fine, so I'll do a loop of some sort, early. By late afternoon we have lots of traffic driven by folks who are partying now, and will continue until this time tomorrow. And then drive home.

You're already planning a hangover? I don't know about you, but I prefer rides over hangovers, by a lot.

wrk101 12-31-14 06:23 PM

I was hoping to pull out my first el cheapo bike tomorrow, but I am missing a cable stop. So I'll pull out my red Cimarron for a spin around town.

sykerocker 12-31-14 06:47 PM

Once the day warms up above 40, I'll get the Raleigh Tourist out and do about ten miles or so. That big monster has become my favorite ride.

bhchdh 12-31-14 06:49 PM

I plan to ride from Pokomoke City, Md to Hallwood, VA while my daughter runs a half-marathon. It has become somewhat of a tradition. It looks like no rain for this year, a I will probably ride my '85 trek 510.

Barrettscv 12-31-14 06:50 PM

I'm planning on an long but slow ride from my home in Chicago to Lake forest and back on Friday. The forecast is for temperatures near 30f with sunny skies and calm winds. Snow free weather recently means no ice and salt free pavement.

jon c. 12-31-14 07:05 PM

No real plan. Probably ride about 30 miles on a local route. I have a pretty good variety of routes that start from home. This time of year, I pick one that won't finish into the wind.

thinktubes 12-31-14 08:08 PM

Probably get back on the bike sometime in April for a lazy 30 up the North Shore....
