Did My Childhood Ross Really Exist?
Hello Fellow Retro Velo Fellows!
(There's a togue-twister in there, somewhere!)
I don't have any pics of the favorite bike of my childhood; and thus, for years, I've been scouring the interwebz in hopes of seeing some pics of the same model of bike. Surely, mine couldn't have been the only one! But to no avail. I've scoured Ebay and search engines, and the only thing I've come up with, is an illustration, of a bike that has handlebars like my old bike, but is not the same bike.
My Ross had D-shaped handlebars, like this:
And it had a banana seat, like the bike pictured. It was probably either a late 60's or early 70's model.
My bike was different than the bike in the pic, in that: The front wheel on mine was also a 20" wheel, like the rear- not a smaller one like in the pic.
Mine was single-speed; Coaster brake only; no sissy-bar; frame was a little different.
Has anyone ever seen a Ross like the one I described? If anyone could point me to some pictures of such, I'd be grateful.
(Extra points if they're pics of a green one! Mine was the nicest shade of green!)
Not only was that bike a great bike; and not only did I spend many wonderful hours of my wonderful childhood on it; but the unusual handlebars attracted stares; comments; and attention wherever i went. (The fact that i was probably the only 10 year-old to have a bike with a Richard Nixon bumper-sticker on it, probably helped, too! )
