Mistery frame, please help!
 

Hello Everyone!

After spending 6+ hours in front of google, I've decided that I'll try and ask the pro-s. :)

I've bought this frame recently out of a barn, the only thing on it was a 105 (105x) headset, a 105 Golden Arrow front derailleur and the fork (which I'm not quite sure if it's the original one).

The frame and fork has been re-painted and they did a really good job removing the old paint because they only left a few red/orangeish dots inside de BB housing. The seller told me that it had a Gazelle sticker on it previously but I couldn't find any matches to those.

The things I know:

The size is 56cm * 58cm C-C, Seat post tube is 28.6 mm and the seatpost that fits is 25.8 - 26.2 mm.

The frame is really light, with all these low end accessories, wheels etc. it is 10.3 kg-s.

700c wheels.

The lugs have BCM stamps on them.

The brake bridge has M.O.D Gipiemme stamped on it.

It has an english thread BB.

Serial number is 566193 on the bottom middle of the BB.

The dropouts have no marks on them, and the original adjusters are missing.

It has brazed on downtube shifter mounts and the cables run in a brazed on cable guide over the BB.

The rear cable stop seems that it's missing a part (but my 1974 Bianchi Campione Del Mondo Touring has a quite similar one)

All other things can be found on the pictures.

Can you guys please help with some tips maybe that where to look further? What can this be and what year?

this looks like a mid-line production frame from the early to mid 1980's.

the way the stays meet the dropouts are done in a production rather than an artisan manner.

one giveaway is the stamped sheet chainstay stop. most any first quality frameset at this time would have used a forged or investment cast one.

stated seatpost size would tend to suggest a quality plain gauge tubeset.

I don't think it's a Gazelle. Those usually have "Gazelle" stamped in the BB shell, at least the higher-end ones. Serial numbers start with 3, not 5. The seat stay caps don't look like Gazelle either. Age- and market position-wise I'm inclined to go with juvela here: second tier, mid-eighties. I'll bet the first 5 in the serial number is for 1985. But a nice frame nonetheless, by the looks of it. That paint job looks pretty good too. Got any pics of the whole bike?

This looks bent and I believe you need a step down or necked ferrule.

I wish I could be more help in telling you what it is, but I'm quite certain that it's not a Gazelle.

Thank you guys for the answers, I'll look further in the early 80's factory produced era.

BTW I've found loads of similarities with Schwinn bikes especially with seat stay end joins.
