Save the Frame

I’m restoring an older Cannondale 3.0 series aluminum frame. I know that with steel frames you want to use Frame Saver or the like on the inside tubes. Does one do anything similar to an aluminum frame? When I pulled the bottom bracket on the Cannondale, there was significant galvanic corrosion that I’d like to avoid the next time around…perhaps just a liberal coating of grease?

Yes, clean and grease maybe chase the threads if it's real bad but grease is good.

Figure out what the corrosion is, and remove it, then Zinc-Chromate primer.

We have a good following of Cannondale Crit lovers here that would like to see your project as it develops. Post up when you can.

Here's a pic of the bb AFTER scraping out most of the corrosion and soaking for a couple of hours in vinegar. My guess is water got into the BB shell and it and the BB reacted. Removing the BB, I broke the tool because it was so frozen in there. On the plus side I was able to source a replacement for the missing derailleur drop out.
