I just pulled a pair of extremely stubborn crank arms off a Viscount frame I picked up on Craigslist several months ago. The puller threads had already been stripped out by the previous owner and they had resisted multiple attempts with heat, penetrating oil, Jacobs chuck remover wedges etc. Finally got it with a two-arm gear puller from Harbor Freight and a 2' cheater pipe on a breaker bar:

I know what you mean. I bought this bike. It looks better now, but it still wasn't worth the effort, even without a stuck post or stem.

Wow...I do not think I would make that statement...even if true!
I just got one...stuck CARBON seat post...on really nice Bianchi frame...from a guy that was a racer and mechanic! At least he said he was...it was one of those deals...you look at it and go "ahh...no way this dude would let the seat post be stuck..."

It is a Reynolds 531 main tubes frame and it meets my parameters for a rider/keeper and should fit just right.

Wow, nice sponsorship from Paul Newman! Was that a Formula SAE for collegiate teams? The guys in the trailer look a wee bit older than college guys!
IIRC, my alma maters, Cornell & UM usually did pretty well in those events, but the Boilermakers would be contenders every so often.

Have you tried CRC Freeze-Off? Last winter I fought and fought with a frozen seatpost. I tried it call. Ice, propane torch, various penetrants. The *one* thing that worked was CRC Freeze-Off. I sprayed that all around and put the seat clamp between two concrete slabs. Twist. And BAM, it released.
Yes, I have tried CRC Freeze Off. Nothing short of cutting a post out works 100% of the time.

I've won a few fights with the frozen stems and seatposts but I've lost two frames that refused to give up. Never really a fun battle either.
Cutting didn;t even work on my last loss. I have a sneaking suspicion someone pounded a too large seatpost into it 15 years ago.

Yes, all of those teams do sound familiar as contenders from those events. Unfortunately I get the feeling that some schools are struggling to keep these programs afloat (my school's team has since disbanded). What a great working experience beyond the obvious fun and debauchery. Taught us what enjoying working your arse off looks like.

The way that I get stuck seat posts out is simple. I drill two holes straight through the seat post with with a1/2" bit. Then I unload a full can of penetrating oil into the seat tube via the holes I drilled. Next tape the holes. Flip bike upside down for 1/2 hour. Then I flip the bike over and insert either a 18" piece of 1/2 thick rebar ($2.50) through the two holes. I squeeze the frame between my legs and twist the post side to side. Works great!!!

^Nice job. I probably will resort to same procedure, just hate sacrificing a fairly pricey vintage seat post.
