old Raleigh mtb
I just got an old Raleigh Big Horn mountain bike (trash heaps can be nice). It seems like a fairly decent bike, although it is VERY heavy. It has a lugged steel frame, uni-crown fork, and Shimano 200GS componants with Bio-pace chainrings. Does anyone know anything about this bike, specificaly when they were made, and where the the 200GS componants would compare with the current Shimano line up?

A Raleigh Big Horn with 200GS is circa 1990-1991. The 1992 model with 200GS was the Serengeti and 200GS did not exist in 1989. Price was $325-$350 CDN. It was an entry level model and used hi-tensile steel throughout the frame, which explains the weight. 200GS was meant for light/occassional use and is about equivalent to to-day's Tourney components.
