A friend bought a hoarder house about a year ago and when he finally cleared most of the junk out he found a huge hole in the middle of the living room. Under the house is packed with bikes and he asked me to come help sort them out. Kind of a treasure hunt for me and a Tom Sawyer move for him...

Just installed this Jim Blackburn low rider front rack on the 83 Cannondale, completing the set.







Unfortunately the rear rack is non-adjustable, but the tilt doesn't cause heel strike or any other issues with panniers.

Laced up new front wheel, installed clipless pedals (did they ever feel weird at first), went for a ride, realized the shoes were 'thicker' and raised the saddle about 1/4". The shoes look ever so 'klunky' compared to my Dettos. And Velcro straps, I feel like a kid who doesn't know how to tie shoes...

Just ordered custom decals from velocals.com for my ratty '87 Dave Scott Ironman.
Pretty neat that they have the capability to customize them. Going with all-stock, except switching it from an "Expert" to a "Master", and swapping the Silver-Font/Yellow-shadow on the Ironman logo.
Taking it to Cyclart for a complete painting, re-decal, clearcoat; and have a NOS Ultegra 6400 Tricolor group with the brifters standing by for mounting.



And now that there's no chance of rain, probably going to take my recently finished Lemond for our honeymoon cruise on the coast.

Well, the shop where I work decided to decorate for the Tour. Boss got it in his head that an all yellow bike in the window would be cool.

Out comes an old bike of unknown marque but nice old Suntour components. I volunteer to clean it up and get it de cluttered for painting. Nice low end stuff you don't see often but still works fine.

Feel bad about the painting but at least I saved a view nice Suntour bits. Late 60's- early 70's most likely

Little cleaning and they could be ready for a frame. I dig the white covers on the shifters. They will prob'ly be moved over to a down tube band.

Two steps forward, one step back. Tried to take the Viking out for a ride. Aired it up, wheeled it out of the garage. Wait. Something in the rear is rubbing. Not the brakes or the fender... broken spoke.

Full the Fuji down. Air up the tires... small hole at the border between the sidewall and tread in the Grand Bois 26. Steal the front wheel off the Professional. Air it up and finally go for a ride. Today... trying to get back to right.

Winterizing a bit (i.e. installing fenders)- need to add flaps and get a few odds and ends together to pull the fender lines concentric. Hoping to replace the fork soon with something of better quality, waiting on that.



Anyone have a recommendation for a 650b winter tire in 38mm? Col de la Vie? I have a rigid MTB that'll see the worst of the snow.

Guess I'll bump this thread again. ^ I still need to get some fenders installed, though the fork is squared away and a definite improvement...

I had a rare evening to myself and was able to rebuild and (very) lightly clean the rain bike hubs as part of the process of switching from 27" to 700c. Added some paint to the kidney bean cutouts while I was at it, they'll need some cleanup once dry as usual.



This bike's a single speed -a few days ago I cut some spacers to more closely match the chainline at the rear to the crank/spindle combo and landed within a half mm or so - should help things last a bit longer. It turns out that with this setup the rear rim is about centered between the hub flanges. All that really means is I should have used a hub with wider flange spacing...but still nice when working with what you already have.

The hubs are '80 Normandy, the bike is a Motobecane Grand Touring.

Nice bike.

I showed a potential buyer my Felt AR3 for sale. But first, as part of my C&V efforts, and because I think it's a better bike for him, I had him test ride my red/white Ironman. He did ride the Felt, and agreed, it's a go-fast bike, but he has decided he wants a steel bike built with modern components. Steel of course, involves Earth, Wind and Fire, and as we all know, "That's the Way of the World."

RIP Maurice White.

I searched thru a friend's stash and found the BB cup set I needed. My Raleigh came with no name cups and one was slighted pitted. Been riding it. I found a set of nice Sugino cups that match the crankset so I'll put them in before the roads are clear for spring. I also sourced the indicator rod assembly needed for the S3C I overhauled. A good day.

Rebuilding the front hub in my GT Tachyon. On the last few rides, the front wheel felt as if it was strangely elliptical. On disassembly, I found that both hub cones were pretty pitted. Miraculously, the races in the hub itself are unscathed!

Broke the piggy bank this week and ordered the Compass Bon Jon Pass for the Bilenky and Soma Vitesse SLs for my Croll.

Off go the fenders.

I'll need every millimeter I can get and I really dislike fenders on gravel roads anyway.

Traded a modern rocket (Felt AR3) for a modern smoothie (Cannondale Six13-5) and a steel all-around (Bianchi Trofeo).

Then I spent time making the Cannondale "mine" and ignoring the Bianchi (though I like the aero Rigida/Miche wheelset)'

I did some weighing, and found some Mavic Kysriums for an Ironman, swapped them in. That's it for C&V.

Today I've been mostly reminding myself why I love living here. 4 miles out from the start, I crossed a World Heritage site, the Canal du Midi. The white line in the far distance are the snow-capped peaks of the Pyrenees.




45 mins later I rode over La Clape, a small range of hills between Narbonne and the sea. Over on the right is Gruissan, in front of me is Narbonne Plage, and out of shot to the left is St Pierre la Mer. The Med is not far away as the crow flies, I'm 160m above it. The photo really misses the point. Sorry.



Ride along the coast road (some cycle path provided!), in to St Pierre for a coffee at a restaurant owned by a friend. He's 100m from the beach.



By the time I'd got back up to the top of La Clape on a different route I knew that with my current fitness, I was stretching my limits. Home past Nissan and one of the longest occupied sites in Europe (over 6000 years continuous occupation), past Poihles (pronounced Poy) and home.

To cap it all, I took Frank the pirate out (1990 Holdsworth Corsair with original Biopace... ) and enjoyed it so much I'm having 2nd thoughts about selling him on in Spring.

If you all have half as good a day as I'm having so far, you're doing pretty well!
