Doing some small refurbishments to my sister's ancient and crusty Super Mirage. I took off the front brake blocks to sand them down a bit for better grip, but not sure eggzackly how they go back on. It's like this, in'it?

But seriously, just finishing a repaint of a flaky C-Dale ST500 fork. Came out pretty nice, and a decent match for an off the shelf rattle can. Good enough for a quick flip.

Put 1X4 slat on the shed roof rafters so I can screw hooks along them. Now I can hang wheels or whatever out of my way. I have space! This summer I make time for organization.

Touched up the frame on my gold MIELE Columbus SL frame that I had some stuff brazed onto be Hugh Black owner of True North Custom Bicycles in Belwood, Ontario just north of Guelph. I had the frame modified so that I can put my state of the art (1981 anyway) Dura Ace AX components. I have the entire groupset except for the front hub and Dura Ace AX branded handlebar. I do have the stem though. Even better is that i have three or four slightly used Uniglide cassettes and at least three NOS ones plus four sets of NOS brake pads that are still supple.

Tomorrow I'll reinstall the headset. I just used some boiling water to soften up the clear AX headset cover so that I could get it off without cracking or breaking it. Got it off without any trouble.

As i went through my parts box I discovered that i have 2 sets of Dura Ace AX brake calipers - one pair nutted and one pair recessed bolt mounting. I also have two complete Dura Ace AX cranksets and four Dura Ace AX Dynadrive pedals. Funny how stuff gathers over the years.

I'm hoping to finish the rebuild tomorrow and I'll post images of it when I do.

Cheers

Gave up on working on the bike, and went out. Pushed the Le Tour to 17.4MPH (one leg) over 10 miles, and 17.8 over a bit more than 9 miles before I hit pedestrian traffic in the city. Might not sound like a lot to many of you, and it was downhill, but I've never touched much more than 16 average on any of my bikes, so it was a big deal to me!

I looked over my C/V collection this morning as I gathered tools in my garage. Spent the rest of the day at the co-op building new work benches and starting a major reorganization of the work space.

The primary aim for today was sourcing used (but quality) components for a build for a long time friend of mine. She is near my height with a longer inseam, so I am more or less building a bike for me, but for her. It'll be my first foray into the trigger-shift world as I am a drop bar / road guy mainly--that and I haven't come across them when volunteering. Picked up some 3x9 Deore XT shifters and will be pairing them with some nice-feeling Tektro levers with a sweet integrated bell.

A necessary wheelset must be had, so I thought why not see if I can use an existing decent used wheelset on one of my bikes and get a new set for around the same money? Pounced on a just-posted incredibly rare (and funky) set of Giant EXT Pros that I thought would look pretty slick on the C'dale. They were in great shape, spun forever, and were dead true. And a deal. Despite of being carbon-spoked, they weigh more than the outgoing 5800-era 105/CXP22 which I think is around 2100g. Don't care though, they look great, and with larger 28C tires just missing frame parts/brakes, I can't wait to test ride it! (pardon the grain-tastic pics)

Speaking of Cannondales, picked up a 63cm 89' at a garage sale and got it half way cleaned. Pretty beat up paint, but it's all straight and had new tires, so I'm ahead of the game.

I had four bikes that I needed to fix up and put on Craigslist. I've finished 3; today I'm finishing the fourth, a 1980 Motobecane grand record in fairly pristine condition.

If that's her bike, then that'd be a helluvan inseam. Does she play for The Seattle Storm?

We just went for a ride on the tandem today. I may prep a bike for tomorrow's commute. Probably the Masi, but I reserve the right to change my mind, or at least what little bit of I have left.

Pardon my lack of context(!), it's a Trek 400 frameset that is close in size to the Cannondale (which is definitely mine to keep). The 400 is really nice, so she won't be getting a bad bike/build. She's about 5'11" but no Seattle Storm deal. I was able to pick up several more critical pieces for the Trek 400 and after I clean and polish up everything, should yield a near-fully mocked-up bike minus the cables & housings. Pretty jazzed about it.

well I finally broke down and changed out the short SR stem for the proper 100mm SR stem that the fit needed. Knew it after the first long ride but did not want to go through the take apart and build back up. Missed it though so up on the stand it went today. Proper size on it now.

Summer time's gonna be right.

I readjusted the rear Sturmey Archer AW hub, as the pedals turned when I walked the bike and the chain was not too tight. I also removed the flick shifter and deep cleaned it in degreaser then an ultrasonic bath. Seems to shift a little better.

Thanks! Feels cramped, the bike stuff seems to grow to fit the space... No fisheye on that pic, DD. Panorama on the eyephone.

The final piece needed to finish the MTB surgery came in today. 'New' bits: Ritchey headset and stem (Nitto mfr'd), Bontrager Crowbars, fresh cables to go along with the stretched out front end, Nitto 65 seatpost and VP Harrier pedals. This bike's been on the back-burner for years (~91 Rockhopper gifted to me a while back). The fit was a bit cramped originally - it's great now, I can't wait to hit the woods.

i sold and shipped some more stuff to another out-of-stater through my craigs ad. this time, a falcon decal i never used and an ofmega 32h rear hub.

i really love the trust involved in these transactions and hearing about other people restoring their bicycles.

Tonight I'm burning through 6 cobalt left handed drill bits in an attempt to remove a broken cobalt extractor bit that's preventing me from mounting my rear rack.

If/When that fails I'll move to digging through my parts bins to see what I have and what I need to turn a Miyata Elevation 1000 frame into a decent dirt drop toy.

Rode to an estate sale because I thought I saw a vintage Trek in the photos, turned out to be an overpriced $100 Fuji Monterey. Tons of tools, but nothing I didn't already have or made in Asia.

Listed a Trek 311 and some rims on CL. Continued to organize shop area. I have about 24 group sets, oy.
