So much awesome.
If you have a bronze Record, do you also have 151BCD cranks? Yeah, you might need that 28t!
If the Holdsworth has long horizontal dropouts with screws, like a Campagnolo 1010, you can cheat a 28t by screwing the adjusters all the way back and running the chain one link short. If you don't want to shorten the chain, you can take the spring off the inside, set the screw all the way back, and put the spring on the outside of the dropout. Might be able to get a 30t to work even.

I have not tried the 28t freewheel yet, but might give it a go before settling. Depending on the front spread, chain wrap might come into play, too.

Stripped the Pinarello Gavia of all components. I'll be replacing the original paper decals with something more durable. a clearcoat will go on afterwards.

Blame it on the weather!
Thanks to my uncanny ability to acquire classic bikes wearing awful repaints my Winter projects usually drag on into Spring when the weather is warm enough and dry enough to allow proper painting in my outdoor "spray booth."
This year is different. Here, in the San Francisco Bay Area we are under the spell of two weeks of Spring weather in February. Today the temperature was above 70 degrees and the humidity below 40% long enough for me to put a nice primer coat on my two latest acquisitions, a Peugeot PX10 and a Carre LeJeune Campionat du Monde.
With some luck I might even apply the color coats and the clear before winter returns! Stay tuned.

I did a great Pasadena vintage ride Sunday on the old Legnano, and a great ride Monday on my modern Culprit. Yesterday, fell off my ladder, only missed the last step, but landed wrong (is there a right way?) and now my back hurts like hell. Now I'm only wishing I was back on the bike. Only missed one day, and, withdrawals already. And they say bikes are dangerous. Happier picture from Sunday.

Yup, same here. We've had one inch of snow then sleet then freezing rain and it may be just rain later on. I'll bet the roads have been freshly salinated. Back to the rollers and the CAAD3 this afternoon. OK but it's not real.

Being very unproductive with the stinkin' flu.....
In between bouts of passing out on the couch I've gotten a little done.
Swapped the stem on "custom" Lemond first. Still too long but it should work until I can the right size Icon Graphite stem....I hope.
Front wheel on the Serotta had a clicking in the hub. So I took it apart. Found good condition grease, just way too little. Cleaned it all out and regreased.
Now to pass out again...

Pretty much the same here. I did run to the grocery store on foot in the falling and fallen slush. It was nice to get out, despite it all.

Got the white Trek 400 out and running. Now to start planning the upgrades. Both new derailleurs are on the 90 High Plains, cables the brakes and barcon shifters, wrapped one side of the new handle bars. Finish the other side tomorrow then hopefully roll both bikes out for a few pics.
Oh yeah, Wald basket on the High Sierra city build.

I finished cleaning up a 1963 Schwinn American that will be given away. Background follows the picture.

My town of Port Angeles, Washington has a program that collects donated bikes and puts them in the hands of riders who want, but cannot afford a bike. Most go to low income kids. Many of the donated bikes need some level of maintenance and replacement parts. These bikes go to the Bike Garage, a small shop owned/operated by my friend Tom Michowski. Tom and I provide the labor. The shop has a stash of used parts that support these bikes. The donation program also takes in $ that cover the cost of parts we don't have available used. Tom passes these parts through at his wholesale cost.....he is a seriously good guy. Envisioning the joy in a kids eye when they receive one of our refurbished bikes is my paycheck.
The Schwinn American came to us in decent condition, but had a lot of rust haze and needed grease/oil everywhere. I took it out for a test ride when I was done with it....with a huge smile on my face.

The last few days I changed out my '74 Paramount's Suntour components for Shimano Dura-Ace/Ultegra (crank) 3x9 with indexed DT shifters. I test fit the wheels I had bought from the bike swap and really liked them. Couple that with having tested out 700x32 tires/wheels (vs. the heavy 27x1.25") and liking it, plus the conversation on the "springiness" thread, I changed everything over. The 32T max cog and Dura-Ace RD wouldn't play ball with the new setup, so I found a 12-27T cassette and now we're good. I had a few days of running the 3x9 as a 2x9, enough to say "This is fantastic!" I don't want my '74 to be a Sunday ride. I want it to be practical and fully capable. Now it is, and now I can compare the frame to other ones. It's wonderful and makes me want to ride. I also love the way it looks.

Missing a chain on the High Plains but done minus the adjustments. Trek 400 already out on the road.

I'm not used to being able to use my outdoor spray booth in February but the warm weather held and the two frames that I showed here a few days ago with their primer coat are now painted.

Beautiful work!! I wish I had anything close to a garage that would allow me to build a paint booth, let alone work on a car etc. Glad you have that situation!

Here is a photo of my "spray booth" taken a couple years ago. What you can't see is the roof that provides some protection from dust and falling tree debris. I have since made a major improvement: I lengthened the pipe that is clamped in the jaws of the vice so that I don't have to stoop over while painting.

Working on a Nishiki mixte
I got this Sport mixte for free last Sunday, and I finally got around to dis-assembly.
I was hoping to save the silver cable housings, but only two were even marginal. The brakes should clean up OK, the pedals came off with a bit of penetrating oil, the left crank arm was easy after I got the dust cap off (a bit of a hassle).
I'm still working on the drive side dust cap, but if I need to destroy it I will.
I have never seen a bottom bracket so tight. The cranks would move, but with a lot of resistance. Probably replace it with a cheap Shimano bracket.
The Suntour SVX derailleurs are stiff, but a soap bath, an Evaporust bath, and an oil soak should fix that. The stem shifters are fine.
The rear freewheel works OK even though the sprockets are rusted. I'll do the wheel bearings while it is raining this weekend.
