I got in my third consecutive 50 mile ride on my Ochsner. Had some fuel and rehydration and then cleaned and lubed both the Ochsner and my Orbea Avant. I am now relaxing in the ac, getting rested up for cooking and consuming a grilled filet of beef tenderloin with grilled yellow squash and sweet potatoe slices. YUM!

Today I rode a 28 miler on my Basso, but Tomorrow Im doing this on my Moser. Last month there were about 25 to 30 riders on various 60's thru 80's bikes
Velo-Retro: Rose Bowl Ride
The ride starts at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California the first Sunday of every month. We meet at the pool/picnic area (Aquatic Center) parking lot at the southern-most end of Brookside Park at 10:30 am to introduce ourselves, talk vintage bikes and swap parts. The ride starts at 11:00 am.
The ride is a casual-paced 25 miles long through Pasadena, South Pasadena, San Marino, Temple City, Arcadia, Sierra Madre (stop at Bean Town for ice cream, coffee or lunch), Altadena, and back to the Rose Bowl for more vintage bike talk. The ride is mostly flat with one moderate climb (fixed gears are fine in other words). The ride has been going on for the past fifteen years, rain or shine, whether anyone shows up or not (usually there are between three and twenty five riders). Everyone is encouraged to bring and ride a 1985 or earlier bicycle, but feel free to ride anything you have

Swapped out some noisy, non-aero Weinmann levers (just couldn't get them to stop rattling) for some Shimano aero on an 84 Peugeot and then swapped a Campagnolo Chorus rear derailleur (delivered personally by @Spaghetti Legs this week during Gugie's magnificent tour) on my 82 Vitus 979 for the Super Record that is getting a little tired.

Found a buyer for this 63cm Koga-Miyata so I had to get it ready. New BB, grease bearings, and consumables. 105 Golden Arrow group with 6 speed cassette. Crank has a chain guard.
I had to remove the internal wiring so the cartridge BB would fit, but the generator didn't work anyway.

Last week, I had a chainring bolt loosen on a group ride which caused some creaking when climbing. Today, I went around to all my bikes and checked all the chainring bolts. On almost every bike, at least one bolt needed to be tightened.

My neighbor took me on a gravel road ride on Saturday, and all I had was my McLean with its 28mm tires. That was the impetus to make some progress rebuilding my Raleigh Super Course as a gravel bike. So yesterday, I worked on it for two or three hours. It will take some more time to finish, but I'm glad it's getting there.

Wheels!
Found these in a closet of a house that I was inspecting. I had previously bought an awesome ‘99 Specialized A1 from the owner. These wheels were the start of a custom build in ‘94.

Learned I will have to cancel my Koga-Miyata RoadAce project.
The entire rear triangle of that bike is bent, probably because of a botched angle grinder job and a suspected rear-end collision.
Only the drive side tube still looks straight.

Light at the end of the tunnel...

Has the appropriate layer of protective dust!
As an exterminator I find myself in a lot of interesting places. As I rounded a corner in an cellar, in a very old home, I found this!
It is coming home with me today!

Not riding enough
I was asking the seller questions about this
It sold just as I was reaching my decision to go for it.
Probably just as well. Need to unload a few.

Picked up a Motobécane Le Champion today. I think it's a '79 with the bottle bosses and campy drops front and rear. Here's the craigs ad pic:

Too tall for me, so I'll be parting out... I was looking forward to putting the brooks pro on my miyata, but the saddle is torn. If the crankset cleans up, I might mount it on my Grand Record. Beautiful Ultegra/Mavic wheelset, too...

I went for a ride today on my 1975 Bob Jackson. Sadly, I have no pics.
It was a beautiful, sunny day. The sky was blue. It was about 70 degrees. Winds were out of the west at 10-15 mph, but mostly just a cross wind to keep me cool while riding. The Pacific Ocean waves are crashing about 100 yards to the west. Of course, the people are the best - everyone was having fun with not a sour face to be found.
Manhattan Beach is having an AVP volleyball tournament - the Manhattan Open. The bike path was closed at the MB Pier, so I just turned around and rode to the end in the other direction. Beach volleyball is a big deal around here.
Some day I will stop and get some pictures. I will eventually move away from here. It will be really sad to find I have no pictures of my most favorite-est bike ride in all the world.

6.5 mile Post Office run on the '78 Peugeot PR10. The rear derailleur has been acting up, chain dragging between large rear gear and jockey wheel. I checked the derailleur mounting bolt, and it was a little loose at the dropout. I tried to reposition the Simplex a little, snuggled it up, and it seems better, still not quiet, but less jockey wheel drag. Always something. I enjoyed the ride though. It was better than the other day, before I checked it.

Putting the build together slowly but surely. The plan, after work, is to continue tuning a rear wheel. Then it’s off to assembling the stem/bars/levers, replacing some brake pads, and hopefully drilling a front bag support to take a decaluer...
