PSA: 80's black Cannondale ... could be a Black Lightning?

I was scouring the interweb today and ran across a 58cm 80's vintage black Cannondale road bike. It's in the Louisville Craigslist. The ad was posted 19 days ago and I haven't checked to see if it's still available.

I tried to enlarge the photo, but it broke up badly. It looks like it has a BL decal on the chain stay, but it has been rebuilt with no BL bits. Still a great bike.

I agree it may be BL frame but the black Suntour goodies are long gone.

That's a nice frame be it a BL or your other Criterium Series offerings.

Don't be so excited about a black lightning. ALL of the SR frames were the same. The SR300 cheep suntour equipt frame was the same as the SR2000 Dura Ace frame. The only thing that made a black lighting a black lightning was the black componants. Dependingon the year, anything from Suntour cyclone to Superbe. GREAT bike either way. Without the black componants you have a run of the mill cannondale.

This is true except for the Criterium Series frame back in the day was anything but "run of the mill". They are and will remain a very desireable frame amongst Vintage Cannondale lovers everywhere. Not all of the racers had the criterium geometry but the Black Lightning was all criterium which made it arguably the easiest bike among the valued to be counterfeited.

I bought a Criterium Series frameset and set out to build my own. It's black and it's bad, ride this stealthy beast in the dark and you would never know it wasnt a Black Lightning.

Mere grouping of parts and decals is the only difference to set the coveted Black Lightning apart from all other Criterium Series bikes. And they are sweet bikes.
