Peroni Track frame, Does anyone else own one?
G'day,
I am the proud owner (or care taker) of a Peroni Track bike or single speed Hand built in Italy (somewhere). It was given to me by the first owner who was an Australian title holder and moved to Europe in the 70's to peruse a professional career, He must have done some track cycling or wanted to back in Australia as he only told me " I have a track bike in storage at my friends shop, tell him you want to it pick it up and its yours". I picked it up with the original Cinelli bars and stem, Cinelli seat Campy rec seat post, Fiamm rims and Campy Rec Oversize fanged hubs. Campy BB but no crank. this was back in the early 90's
I was a juvenile amateur racer at the time so I had to adopt the standard 45 13 gearing so the bike is still with this ratio. I added the Sugino crank (given to me) so I could ride it at club events, Later I had to get some clinchers as we were only allowed to ride on clinchers as a juvie (also given to me), yes I was a poor young racer. Only surviving on what friends and family would give. Still I was lucky.
Any way, back to the main topic....
(Italian) Peroni custom track frame by Sergio Peroni (signed on the frame) Columbus tubing with Campy and Cinelli group.
I can not find any info or any relation to the frame or builder, I could only find Pieron bikes in the same font as my Peroni, Perhaps this is an early Somec or from a frame builder freelancing from a bigger builder...
Any help would be appreciated...

Not the best photos, This is all I have until I return to Australia to Pick up the bike.. When I moved to another state my Dad gave it to his friend thinking I didn't want it, the bike was given back to me now with way too much bar tape and wrong saddle.

Peroni or Perkins?
Simon Sama,
Re Peroni track bike.
I have a frame that has been said to be a Peroni but its really hard to find anything to confirm it by. Did your Peroni has a 'P' cutout in the BB shell? Underneath?
I've tried to attach some images of BB shell, and lugs with Clover marks, The Seat binder is quite unusual and I like the brake stay but the dam uploader keeps failing
Cheers

Ciao Weeredok,
For sure the BB on your bike is a Peroni. It is the same BB as my Peroni frame. can you see a couple codes stampped into next to the "P" cutout? I am guessing one is a date code and the other is the frame builders initials and the size. My frame has PS55 (Sergio Peroni 55cm) and 7273 (possibly August 2nd 1973 or just years 72-73).

wonder if the "3" on that foil Columbus sticker indicates a tre-tubi frame? Seems odd if so since for the quality shown why would a builder choose to save a few Lira on the stays and blades? Also have never seen this marque before but that's no surprise given the depth of the craft in Italy. Who made that "CHAMPION" BB shell, it's a new one to me? How about a shot of the side piercings in the headlugs, those look interesting and unique.

Originally I had no idea of the age of the bike. I did a little research about the Columbus tube sticker (to get an estimate of age). I couldn't find an exact match anywhere. The only thing I found out is its early like pre '76 as the 'dove' has two wings (later only one) and the '3' indicated three main tubes were Columbus. For the fork, head tube and seatstays it could have been the customers choice or the builder found this combination best for his applications. Not sure if it was purely to save cash. some people didn't like the tube shapes Columbus were making for their forks and stays in the early 70' possibly. Later it become the trademark of an Italian built bike. I wish I could find out exactly where it was built and what happened to the company.
