Alternative Cable Clamp Bolt (missing) Setup Suntour Cyclone 1st Generation
I called a local coop and they had an "as is" 1st generation Cyclone for $10. It was missing the b limit screw (I took one off a parts only Suntour rear der.) and, of course the proper cable clamp. I've read the forums and know the dimensions and what the proper one looks like. I'm wondering what other formats you have used in such a situation. The date code on this is XA (Jan. '81) and other than the missing acorn nut/eye bolt it's in great shape. The coop used a allen bolt front, with washer then a strange little piece on the rear to basically "crush hold" the cable in place, in other words, there isn't a hole in the bolt for the cable to pass through. Will this work? I think it will but wonder what you all use in this situation.
Thanks.

By the way, this is what it looked like after the ultrasonic cleaning.
Thanks.

It's fine. Install it and ride it.

I see no reason a pinch bolt wouldn't work.
Most RDs I've used have the cable pinched in like that anyway- instead of through the barrel of the bolt.

This was first thought. My side pull brakes on a bike has this type of eye bolt setup but the body of the eye bolt was too big to go through the tab on the Derailleur. Maybe I could file it though.

Mine came with a replacement "pinch bolt". (I don't know if there's a more specific term for this bolt that would help you locate another -- hopefully they're commonly available.) The head on the bolt I have was a bit large for the hole, so I painstakingly filed it to round it out. (I felt like I was in a jailbreak movie.) If you do this yourself know that tightening the bolt will cinch it down some so you don't need to file it to an exact fit.

UPDATE: I fabricated my own using a pinch nut/bolt from an old Dia Compe straddle cable hanger. I am going to start a completely new thread and document for future people like myself looking for a solution. It's not rocket science and took about an hour. My parts bin are not nearly as deep as some on the forum, so I usually end up figuring out something else that's good enough.

What's that going on? A new project in the works?

@jyl - no new projects. I've sold or given away a total of 4 bikes. I'm down to only 8 bikes!!! I called A Better Cycle and they held a couple of Suntour derailleurs for me. I bought the Cyclone rd and it was missing a couple parts. I've posted a very detailed thread with photos called "How to Fabricate Pinch Bolt for Suntour Cyclone". Hopefully, it will help people like me who are looking for a solution. I'm positive I'm not the only one to have done this, but nobody posted how to do it....until now.
Actually I'm thinking to do a 650B conversion on one of my Japanese '80's mixtes. One will definitely work. I'd use the original hub and relace. Thinking either Pacenti PL23 or Velocity A23 rims. Fun times.
