Townsend, unknown to anyone (until now?)
 

Dear reader,

Here a post from The Netherlands. My prime reason to join Bike Forums is that I recently required an old mtb in poor condition, but with a frame I like and with Shimano biopace-xg.

The headbadge says Townsend, so I assumed the bike would be British. I informed with the firm (they're making children's mtb's nowadays), but was told they never used the headbadge on my bike (see the picture).

According to the seller, the bike is American, but right now I don't have a clue about this thing.

Is there anyone who can help me a little further?

Bike that does not show up on google and has a sticker head badge is typically a private label/store brand. There are thousands of them out there.

There was a company in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada: High Country Sports that made bicycles branded Procotor Townsend. One of their builders was Bob Townsend. They made mostly road bikes, but also mountain bikes.

Your headbadge does not match the Proctor-Townsend headbadge that is most common. But I think there was a time when Proctor was not part of the brand name.

Do you have a serial number?

The elevated chainstays are from the early 1990s.

Thanks For the input. The bike turner out to be British. A Townsend Warlord, early 1990s indeed. Not exactly a sofisticated bike, but a nice enough frame to start restoring en rebuilding.
