Let's Talk About Doing Another Portland C&V Ride
We had a Portland C&V ride last July. There was a nice turnout of cool people on cool bikes, and I had a good time.
Now that winter is bizarrely over in Portland, as weeks of sunny 50-60F days and flowers and budding trees tells us, I think it may be time to think about the next Portland C&V ride.
Here are some things I'd like to discuss:
1. When? It was late July last year. If we do June, the ride can take place during Pedalapooza. Preferences? Any particular weekends to avoid?
2. Where? Last year we did a flat ten mile social loop through some close in East Portland neighborhoods. We could do another 10-15 mile loop through some different urban neighborhoods, or a 25-35 mile ride that is still largely flat but goes farther afield, or a 25-ish mile hilly ride with a mid ride rest and regroup stop. The goal will still be a moderate pace and plenty of regroup stops.
3. Any other things I've omitted . . .

@jyl - I know that @adventurepdx has a Society of the Three Speeds ride planned on June 21st for part of Pedalpalooza. Since it's a Sunday I'll likely go.
I prefer NOT Saturday as I'm training with Portland Fit for the marathon, and training is Sat. morning. I like the 10-15 mile urban ride. Easier to stop somewhere to eat, drink or whatever.

That'd be fun to do as I can probably count the numbers of times I've been to Portland on one hand for the close to three years I've I've in Oregon. Not sure if we'll still be here by then or not. Might be moving back to the midwest.

I think planning it to happen during Pedalpalooza means A LOT bigger turnout, because of the calendar. However, weather is more consistently "nice" in July then it is in June.

@adventurepdx - I'm looking forward to the ride. I've been fine tuning the Phillips and have made lot of changes that make it more fun & comfortable to ride.

I need to avoid the July 11-12 weekend (that is STP) and the preceding weekends (preparing for STP, 3 speed ride) so I'm now thinking either Sun, June 7 or Sun, June 14, which would put it on the Pedalapooza calendar, or Sun, July 18 or Sun, July 25.
What say anyone interested? I'm kind of leaning toward the June dates.

Portland C&V Ride date set! Sunday June 7, 11 am at Velocult.
Now to figure out a short loop. Don't worry, you won't even break a sweat . . .

Newby to Portlandia, so I'm in!
Velocult is a C&V shop, for sure.

Cool! Probably won't be able to make it due to work, but I'll actually be doing another vintage themed ride later that day...
S H I F T to bikes!
HEAVY DUTY: INDUSTRIAL BIKE TOUR
Union Station, 800 NW 6th Ave, Portland Take Trimet (Meet by stone obelisk at NW 6th and Irving.)
Sunday June 7
meet at 4:30 pm, leave at 5 sharp
A 6 mile or so tour around the NW Industrial Area on industrial bikes. Think American mid-century style balloon tire cruisers, like Schwinn Heavy Dutis or anything by Worksman, stuff you'd see on a factory floor. If you don't have that kind of bike, ride what you got! We'll have a beer stop or two, and end nearish where we start. Of course you know it's going to be slow paced!

Count me in! Maybe this time I'll ride my longtail cargo bike instead of the recumbent. I'm such a rebel.

Depending on date and time, I would like to attend as well.
One thing. Last time, we had a nice leisurely ride with good people and fluid conversation. I'm guessing the next ride will be similar. At some point, I would like to see another ride. A fast ride. You know, like, out to Blue Lake along Marine Drive pushing at a strong clip? I do enjoy a ride to connect with friends but sometimes I also like to use my Pinarello for what it's actually for.

Yeah, a fast C&V ride would be good. Maybe in late May? I'm not in great shape right now, but volunteer to be the caboose. And/or, I'm thinking of riding the Pioneer Century on Saturday June 6.

Just a reminder, Sunday June 7 11:00 AM at Velocult is the C&V Ride. See the Pedalpalooza schedule for details, okay I'll save you the click -
https://www.shift2bikes.org/cal/viewpp2015.php
CLASSIC & VINTAGE ROAD BIKE OGLE & RIDE
Velocult, 1969 NE 42nd Avenue
11:00am
We will meet at Velocult with our classic & vintage road bikes, to celebrate lugs, downtube friction shifters, sew-ups, high-flange hubs, drillium, Nuovo Record, corncobs, Bennoto tape, and the era of Merckx, Hinault, and the Other Greats. After suitable ogling (of bikes!), we will take a socially paced and shortish ride, and return to Velocult where it might just be time for beer. I will buy a pint for the first to present with a Huret Jubilee or Campagnolo Porta Catena. Two pints for a Suicide Shifter.
This year I wanted to check out some of the areas of Portland that are changing and disappearing as our city rapidly develops. So from Velocult we will head west to fast-gentrifying NE Williams with its controversial left side bike lane and take that to Alberta, then come down already-gentrified Mississippi, then take Interstate to the Eastbank Esplanade, check out the new Tilikum Crossing bridge, ride on Division St aka the New Portland, do or not do the optional ascent of Mt Tabor, then up the new "50s bikeway" back to Velocult. A 16 mile loop, we'll do it socially/casually with regroups at the confusing bits, I expect the ride will take 1.5-2.0 hours, which puts us at a socially acceptable hour for the first beer of the day.

What are we all going to be riding?
I currently have only two running C&V road bikes with downtube shifters. 1978 Raleigh Team Pro, 1992 Cannondale R1000. Another with non-period Retroshift levers. 1982 Peugeot PSVN. Everything else is in pieces or not sufficiently C&V or not a road bike. So I'll probably ride the Raleigh.
Looks like decent weather a week from today.

I need to get to Portland sometime... soon.... Maybe I'll try to plan on including next Sunday.
I already decided to tune up the old Colnago for the trek up north.
Hopefully I'm not too out-classed by flawless 30+ yr old bikes
As mine has had a lot of time and miles.

If I have done this correctly, the cuesheet should be a PDF below. Those with frisky legs could, perhaps, indulge yourselves between the regroup points, e.g. blast down Interstate, along the Esplanade, and up Mt Tabor - call it interval training.
