1984 World Sport

Picked this up for $20 yesterday. One owner. 49cm World Sport 12 speed. CroMolly main tubes. All original Suntour AR. Serial # is G1184 and the headbadge shows 3454, yet it has the 1985 paint (ice blue). Wonder if it was made so late in year that they went ahead and painted it with 1985 paint scheme? Anyways, at 49cm I think this will fit my 5'3" wife just fine. I also got the blue 1984 Collegiate 3 speed for $20.

Nice little bikes, especially at that price. Always a treat to find them so nicely kept all these years. I found a beautiful Raleigh ladies' three speed for my neighbor at her request and paid $24 (passed on to her for that price) and she proceeded to let it rot while leaning against a fence in her back yard. Still bugs the hell out of me.

My wife is 5'5 and has an 84 WS that is 21"/53.5cm and it fits, but is slightly bigger than perfect. That will probably be a perfect size for your wife. Its a solid town and trail bike.

Check the crank- is it Sugino or SR? 84s had a Sugino and the 85s had an SR.
It may be an 85 color with 84 components(I think everything else was basically the same between years) or it may be an 85 that was just made at the end of 84.

I will check when I get home...it's pretty interesting, I think it's an 84 with 85 color. Wonder how many were made like that...can't be that many. I will report back later this evening.

The 84 and later World Sports are nice bikes. Really smooth rider, the AR shifting is REALLY nice.

Thanks! I put her on it last night and played with the seat height a little and she gingerly road it down the street a little ways...she has never been on a road bike before. We may have to raise the stem a little.

Make sure you don't raise the stem above the max height!

This is the odd bike-
The bars don't look nearly as large in person as in this picture- that was quite a surprise to see.

What serial number is yours? 1985?

I picked up a black 1984 World Sport a little while ago. It seams like a well built bicycle. I'm rebuilding it for my wife.

I don't remember the 4 code head badge date, but it was in the early months of 84 for sure.

I never looked at the serial number though

Cool! Got a pic? I may need to follow along with you.

I'm working on Fuji Monterey before I start on the World Sport. I'm not savy enough to post a pic:(
