Amputation today

Hopefully had my last surgery today and can be back on the bike within a month. I had a severe bone infection in my right foot and had the pinkie toe and 5th metatarsal amputated this afternoon. Pain is pretty bad right now but the doc assures me I'll be able to be involved in most athletic pursuits, including cycling. No running, so triathlon is out, but other than that, he said everything will basically be normal. If you're the praying type, I could sure use it right now.

Damn bad luck! Is this from your trailer incident?

Best wishes for a speedy recovery. I've had more foot ailments than I'd wish on my 10 worst enemies so I literally feel your pain.

Praying that God heals you quickly and that you will find His purpose in this for your life.

Rough night attempting to sleep... Percocet helps, but it keeps me awake too. This sucks... I keep staring at my bike sitting on the trainer. I'll be on it soon enough.

So sorry, can't imagine what you are going through right now and I am praying and hoping your recovery is swift...

FYI: Not certain your doctors discussed this with you... prolong pain medicine use will cause other problems; almost worse then the surgery (severe constipation). If you can in any way manage the pain using Aleve and Tylenol, it would be a better bet but of course you must follow your surgeon's instructions.

Again heal quickly!

Also drink lots of water. Eat lots of fiber. Your GI is going to need all the help it can get. (I've done extended runs of Oxycodone and other good drugs when I had broken multiple ribs plus collarbone - twice. The second time I crashed 8/23. I took a normal dump 10/16. That October day was almost as big in my memory as the crash date.)
