Carbo-Loading I

OK, so this is a pretty tight-knit community. I think it's time we had a general rolling conversation thread, ala:

http://www.bikeforums.net/road-cycli...ion-xxxx7.html

http://www.bikeforums.net/singlespee...oday-i-v2.html

I thought "Carbo-Loading" would be an appropriate name for it. After all, there won't be much forum "protein" here. Just the extra calories (words) that don't do much to further the cause. I'm open to ideas for a better name, though. I know people that can edit the title! :innocent: This is a place that anything goes, as long as it's within the forum guidelines.

I'll start - I haven't been riding enough. It's frustrating.

Also, I get to play bass in a "band" for about 100 kids Saturday night. That's always a fun night. Though it means I have to miss an organized ride that goes by alpaca farms. I'm bummed about that.

Oh, and I want to try a straight seat post. I don't think the setback post that I have is right for me. I find myself sliding forward on the saddle. I moved the saddle forward and it helped, but looks dorky (like me!).

jsigone 05-08-15 05:46 PM

that was the main reason I put 0 setbacks on my bikes. Than just move back some for the stupid steep hill climbs (if I stay in the saddle)

I haven't been riding much/enough lately, for many different reasons, and it seems I won't be getting much outside rides this year :(

Today I found that I would be tied for 8,200 place in the Strava Specialized Spring Classics Challenge.

Apparently 1,000 miles Since April 3rd is zilch.

Some folks need jobs or hills *OR* both.

Dude, check out the damn Clydes group on Strava - the leaders put in 300-500 miles a WEEK.

Clydes my ass.

TrojanHorse 05-08-15 07:13 PM

PJ, if you rode faster you could do alpacas AND play the bass for your groupies. :D

I secretly want to try a zero setback seat post, but can't justify it after just buying a Thomson Elite setback post. The problem was that I bought that post while I was drunk and have no recollection of doing so. That said, I got it for $57 somehow, a solid deal.

Maybe if I have a few beers tonight, the bike fairies will bring me a zero setback Thomson to play with.

At least you didn't buy yourself a time share! :roflmao2:

I'm debating whether I want to change out my chain before tomorrow's century. I've put it off too long to do it in daylight, and it was raining all day anyway. Need to recenter the brakes and clean my steed and certainly, putting a new chain on takes about 10 min.

Hm. Where are my work lights.

At the tender age of 47, my ego FINALLY let go of the 11 cog on my cassette. I put a 12-28 on Wednesday so that I could have a 16 cog instead of an 11. :thumb: I finally noticed that SRAM's cassettes are all nearly identical from 11-19, it's only the upper cogs that change.

It wasn't all sunshine and roses. I also ordered some Gatorskins....and mistakenly got the wire bead version. :crash:

jsigone 05-08-15 07:39 PM

change the chain and trail run your drive way

dr_lha 05-08-15 07:44 PM

I rode with a 12 cog most of last year, didn't even notice it. Certainly didn't feel slowed down. I certainly felt it on the hills though, as it was a 12-30 cassette.

I'd skip the chain and focus on tightening your skewers! :p

PhotoJoe 05-08-15 09:00 PM

I gave up the 11 the first week I had the bike. No ego here. It's been a 12-28 ever since. I have a new Ultegra 12-30 in the box ready to go on, too.

Thanks. I had just never seen one like that. I think a standard post is what I"m going to look for....someday. Guess I have to be drunk, first! :roflmao2:

TJClay 05-08-15 09:03 PM

I was really resistant to go to an 11-32 when I went to an 11 speed. I wish there was a 12-32 option. I never use the 11 but the 32 has saved my fat ass a few times and I've gotten used to the bigger gaps in the middle.

I have an 11-32 9 speed with compact crank the 34/32 is for days you want to ride slower than walking :-)....I do use it a little :-)....have a 12-27 on the way though :-).

Read about some guy riding for some kind of record, 225 miles a DAY....He has a large pizza for an evening snack.

Well I had some beers and I'm no closer to a zero setback seat post. What was I drinking that night?

Of course I know if I repeat it I'll end up with something else, like a Chris King bottom bracket or something.
