Helping a friend find a trike (not recumbent)

Hello all,
I have a friend in the Chicago area who is interested in trying out a tricycle (not recumbent). He's a big guy and will need something that can take a lot of weight. Can anyone recommend a brand that would be good? I would also love to hear if you know about bike shops in the Chicago area that he might work with. I'd like to find a place where they won't be mean to him. Many thanks.

Momentum Bikes LLC ? Special Needs

Besides being a Worksman dealer, they have a web page dedicated to 'special needs,' which suggest to me they will not be mean.

The English-folk are into trikes in a more serious way, including for racing, with builders like Longstaff and Ken Rogers. Perhaps a visit to Tricycle Association would be helpful.

Thanks! Those racing trikes are cool.

Why not a recumbent? There are two styles of recumbent. Two wheels in back or two wheels in front. My wife has a Sun EZ-3 that she loves. Well, until
she developed POTS anyway... Anyway, not all recumbents are the super low to the ground race bents you're probably familiar with.

That's a cool trike. I think he's looking for an upright city bike for short trips around town hauling stuff.

If he wants to haul stuff these look good.
Heavy Duty Mover Industrial Tricycle from Worksman Cycles

I ride a Terratrike Rover at time and like it but its a recumbent.

The EZ-3 is pretty useful for that sort of thing. You can also hook a trailer to it pretty easily.

Thanks all. I sent him recommendations for the Worksman and the EZ-3. Maybe he'll find the recumbent one will do what he wants. I'm grateful for your help.

just to note.... trikes are not always stable. They have issues with corners (at least the upright ones I have used.....as a teenager I nearly killed myself when I tried a turn on the trike I bought for a delivery business) and lifting wheels They also are more of a hassle riding on the street, imho.
