July 2015: Get Out and Ride! 100+ mile goal thread

For new comers, you simply state a realistic and stretch goal while tracking your mileage all month!

For me, setting mine at 400 miles again since I came up short last month. Stretch goal, 450!

YTD: 1106 (37%) / 3000 miles

July goal 200 miles. Stretch goal 250 miles.

Started out good with a commute to work today. Made the ride in just over 23 minutes with a speed average of 14.7mph. (according to MMR).

Good luck to everyone on reaching their goals this month!

I think I'll do this one instead of the goofy elevation one this month. 300 is sort of an informal target for me each month, so I'll do 400 just for a change-up, and I think I'm going out on a century on 7/11 so that oughta help.

Trojan,

Do both!! I just copy the table containing both into each thread. Keeps your eyes on two prizes!!

For me, I will put in a 400 mile goal and a 440 stretch(to make up for the miles I didn't make last month) I will also aim for 10,000 ft.

What I find most interesting about last month was that I did 2 metric centuries and still didn't make my goal. I needed to rest both before and after those rides and I ended up losing miles. Sometimes, doing less more often gives you the bigger win. I have done about 20-22 riding days the months before and I think I only had 16 riding days in June. So far on the bike computer it says I have done over 1600 miles. Not bad for starting to ride in January!

Might make a goal to ride for 20+ days as well. I think this is the key for me to making my goal. Of course July on Long Island is high humidity and hot so even with the extra day this month, this will still be a challenge.

This month I am also aiming for 10k ft. Last month @ just under 200 miles I was less than 300 feet from that. One more commute to work would have put me over.

Shooting for 250miles stretch of 300miles......family in town which might impact riding time. If not for that I'd shoot for much higher.

Started out this am with a 33 mile goal, at about 19 miles I got a flat. Went to do the patch thing, and found out that a 10 year old set of Mr. Tuffs had become brittle to the point of slashing my rear inner tube. Caslled wife to 911 me home in the car. Will go get some new tube, and Mr. Tuff's to get the bike back to being ridable.

I fell like a total donkey when I was cleaning up the bike to ride again about 5 weeks ago, Should have pulled the tires, inspected tubes, and Mr. tuff's. Never would have thought that a little dry heat would dammage Mr. Tuff's Could have avoided this incident this am.

Giving myself the same goals as last month; 400 miles, 500 stretch. Missed last month by less than 15 miles, for which I blame the weather and my laziness. Got this month started right; commute, with an extended ride home.

6/1 - 36.72 (commute)

Total - 36.72/400

I'm not an Athena, but I am a newbie. Can I join the goal anyway? I want to do 150 miles, which is just a little more than I did in June. Stretch goal, 200 miles.

7/2: 8.4 (recreation)
7/3: 15.3 (recreation)
7/4: 5.1 (ride with an even newer newbie than myself)
7/7: 12.0 (recreation)
7/10: 7.3 (errands)
7/11: 9.5 (commute)
7/18: 8.6 (recreation)
7/19: 20.2 (recreation)
7/22: 10.4 (recreation)

Total: 96.8 / 150 (64%)

28 miles, 784 feet on what I would classify as "pancake flat"

got passed by not one but TWO people right about the 12 mile mark and had to try to remedy that. Got a couple PRs and closed the gap but never quite caught up. Dangit.

At least I got started. Not a lot but it is something. I did not have much time to do more but I am happy that I got personal bests on the first half of my morning ride on a couple hills. That already makes it a good month and puts a smile on my face.

Then again, anytime this kid gets on a bike, I have a smile on my face .

Goal: 400 miles; 10,000 ft climb (all data from Strava)

7/2 12.7 miles; 690 ft

Total: 12.7 miles; 690 ft
